Location: oswego, il | I had a couple questions since I bought an uncastable version of this reel and there seems to be alot of versions of it.
Is there a narrow spool 7000 with 4 to 1 retrieve besides the 7000NLD?
What is the difference between the red 7000 and the green 7000B besides about 40 bucks? |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | The red has bearings where the green has a bushing. The green casts like it has sand in the gears (at least mine does). |

| no narrow spool 7000 with 4:1 ratio. however, some people have replaced the gears in 7000iHSN with the 4:1 gears out of a 7000iCS and created their own.

The red 7000 has no ball bearings what so ever,,,,
The green 7000B has one ball bearing, it's located under the star drag and supports the crank/main gear shaft.
Look here for information about converting a 7001 to a 7001C3 (it's the same for 7000 to 7000C3)

IMO, the main benefit of swapping the spool bushing for bearing, is backlash control!!! By using a high viscosity oil in the bearings (I use STP oil treatment) you get way less backlashes + the reel runs more quietly! These reels use 3X10X4 mm ball bearings on the spool.
BTW, I think both those reels are discontinued...& i bought a 7000B for LESS than my older red 7000!
For more info about Abu 7000's try contacting Ken D (Kenny Dee) @ Mikes reel repair forum...he really knows the ins and outs of Abu's!!!

Location: oswego, il | I ended up buying an HSN. I could not pass up the price. I will try it with the 5.3 gears, I already don't care for the big bucks on my 965 penn with a crank handle so i will probably get 4.0 gears for it. I like the fact that I can still palm the narrow 7000.
Hey thanks for the info! |
