I have heard of weighting a Jake by drilling a hole and adding cooking oil into it. Has anyone ever done this? How much liquid did you add? I would like to get them to run a little deeper and suspend or sink slowly. Do the rattles still work?

Yes. Drill the hole, add some oil, and temporarily plug the hole with gum or putty. adjust the amount of oil untill the bait suspends, sinks, or rises to your liking. Remove the temp plug, and fill hole with epoxy to seal. I like to use a syringe to keep the oil from getting on and around the hole. I still clean the hole with alcohol so the epoxy adheres well.

I have heard that is great for custing but ruins them for trolling. Is that true?

Sounds like a job for a DD or DDD!

Putting oil into a Jake must make it a bit random where the oil ends up after being cast out. I expect sometimes it would be at the back, sometimes the front etc, each giving a completely different effect?

Tried it once and ruined the bait...it leaked oil and made a mess in my storage.
