I have an 89 merc 150 and the alarm keeps going off & on at weird times. I loaned it to somebody who (long story) was putting oil in the resevoir and forgot to put the cap back on. It looks like there was an air bubble around where it mixes it on the motor. The alarm would go off and on with the tilt of the motor

I though I fixed it but it came back this weekend after not being used for a few weeks. I could make the alarm turn off by turning right or left, by bringing it back down to idle, by stopping.

Temp is fine, it is getting oil...

any thoughts?

If the motor has a reservoir on the powerhead (not sure about that year) make sure the tank seal is tight, then remove the cowl and start the motor. Open the cap JUST A LITTLE on the small reservoir on the motor, after surrounding the base with a rag that will not get into any moving parts; as soon as oil begins to come out crank her tight again. Should get the air out of the lines.
