I realize this is not a Musky question, but I figure there are some black powder enthusiasts here. Question:

I want to ship a black powder kit (not assembled) to California from Maryland. What procedures must I use to do this? Thanks

I know Cabelas ships them all the time. Perhaps they could help you.

Dude, you can ship the gun through the mail minus the powder....if you use the post office insure the gun for its' value![:sun:]

Thanks for the info. I finally found a place to ship it for me. As a black powder kit, it is considered an antique and is not considered a firearm. However, most of the employees in the places I tried (including UPS)are not up on the law and refused intially to ship it. Guess they were afraid of a federal firearm's violation.Amazing how people will say: "the law says this", when they don't even know it correctly. Funny, I showed them my police credentials (I am a cop in Maryland) and even then they wouldn't believe me.

I finally found on of those "Parcel Plus" places to ship it, but only after he called UPS to verify if they would accept it. This time UPS told him (after refusing the first time) they would accept it. Just a matter of the store going that extra step to help me.

Interesting that Cabelas, etc. uses UPS all the time to ship black powder rifles and pistols with no problems, while I ran into this problem. Anyway, they took it finally. Thanks - Tom
