I left the evil cities about 7 hours later than expected due to disorganization on my end. I wanted to pre-fish a tournament with my friends kid that was due to start at 7am the following day. I disappointed Mitchel, but we were able to put 2 registerable walleyes in the boat during the tournament. I knew if we got the third we would of been in the $. I let Mitchel, who is 13 years old, go up to the scales with the 2 fish, and when he said the 2 may good enough to place I couldn't believe it. An hour later we received the top prize for walleye division with the 2 fish, and we won by over 2 pounds. I made more $ in one day on vacation than I do in 2 weeks at labor camp! I have fished this tournament for 6 years now, won twice, placed third twice, and blanked twice. I blank just about 364 days a year until I'm in St. Rosa, MN fishing beautiful Big Birch Lake. The tournament had 58 boats (60 max.) this year, and does have some "professionals" involved. I spent Sunday recovering and getting the 3rd walleye I thought I needed, and put some pike in the boat with my friends kids. I took them to Mille Lacs on Monday, and on about my 5th cast I got a 48". I told the kids that we would be lucky to see one during our trip. Muskies were slow, but we caught some nice Northerns and Smallmouth. My friend, Tom Ladwig, came up Thursday night after I dropped the kids back off, and we got 3 muskies(46",46", and a 47") fishing with Steve Scepaniak of www.predatorguideservice.com , fishing the evening/night bite(I lost one that I actually can say I didn't blow..they just get off sometimes!). They are tough on a short line, and you know what happens! We have fished with Steve for 9 years now, and I learn new tricks of the trade every time! If anyone is interested in learning what the big puddle is about and wants to fish with someone that has been guiding the lake for muskies longer than most, and is about as easy going and fun as you can find, I would suggest Mr. Scepaniak. I've heard that Mr. Thomas is fun to be with, and his results are great. Mr. Jonesi has proven himself as a great guide and a fun one to be with. Mr. Tauchen and Mr. Hammernick from what I've heard and seen are also extremely top notch guides. Just a little "plug" for a great friend that has put me on some of my biggest fish and best times on the water in my life. Major importantant side note!!!! If you fish at night....keep your lights on!! I realize that the bugs on the water are horrible, but realize that you may not hear a boat coming in time, and at it is the law. I didn't want to take the kids out at night because of this type of potential dangerous situation. If you fish at night, please bring the goofy bug hats and long pants, long sleeve shirts, and flash a light at any boat that you think may not know you are there. Bug spray doesn't work! The days of common coustesy with respect to "reasonable" distance and safety are probably gone. The Pond sure isn't like Pelican as it was during the 70's, but no lakes are 100% safe at night. Always be safe out there!

I haven't had much time to review the pics of my great trip, but caught a few things that should be remembered when taking photos!
1. Teach a boat partner how to use your camera, and measure a fish! My 48" looks really bigger than my 47". Did the kids I was with measure it's nub tail part??? I really didn't look!
2. Tell your friend to take off the d@mn bee keeper hat! BUZZ BUZZ!!!
3. If you are wearing clothing representing two different tackle manufacturers....at least not have the shirt on backwards!!! I'm a bonehead!!!
