Location: Hayward, WI | I was wondering how much a standard weighted magnum (12 inch) Bull Dawg weighs. I've seen it listed on the internet anywhere from 5 1/2 - 6 ounces, but some guys talk about it being an 8 ounce bait. How much do these thing really weigh?
I have an 8 foot medium heavy Gander Tournament Series Rod rated for 1-4 ounce baits. Casting a shallow Regular Dawg (9 inch) feels heavy enough for that rod. The bait actually "feels" a little lighter on a 7 foot medium heavy Compre rated for 3 ounce baits, though the 8 foot stick seems to cast it farther.
I'd like to try a Mag Dawg to see if I like them, but if it's an 8 ounce bait it will be death to the rods I own. Kind of hate to spend $200 on a combo just to find out I don't like Mag Dawgs as much as the regular Dawgs.
Anyway, this is just a long winded thread to see if anybody has actually weighed their Mag Dawgs on a relatively accurate scale.

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I believe the newer hand poured ones are actually slightly heavier than the older injection molded ones. I have one that I just put on my postal scale and it comes in at an even 8 ounces.

Location: Hayward, WI | Thanks guys. Looks like it would be pushing a rod rated to 4 ounces WAAAY past it's limit.
I was thinking about buying a rod like an 8 foot XH Shimano Compre to throw baits like the Mag Dawg, but that rod, and many other like it are rated for 2-6 ounce baits. Will an 8 ounce Mag Dawg be too much for even that type of rod? I'm on a budget and can't afford the XXXH Premier or even the Musky Innovations rods.
Lots of people talk about loving rods that are rated for 6 ounce baits for throwing Mag Dawgs. Can you do it without worrying about the rod?

Location: Norway | I throw my Mag's with the St Croix Premier 76H which is rated 2-6oz, no worries. I even Use my 76MH some times, but then I more lob them out, and then with some worries
