Posts: 2865 Location: Brookfield, WI | Wow. A freeway bridge in Mnpls. that was being repaired collapsed into the Miss. River. Reports of eight to fifty cars in the River. My thoughts go out to everyone in MN. I hope all our MN board members and their families are all right. Apparently a school bus was involved. Info on injuries and deaths seem unreliable at this point. Check out the cable news stations for info. Scary. Kevin

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | I have a few friends in that area, so hopefully they are all okay. Cell phones are a no go right now around there (at least when I tried to call) as I'm sure everyone is trying to get a hold of family and friends. Keep those guys in your prayers over there, and hopefully eveyone on the board and their families are okay as well.

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | Wow...we live in N.E. Mpls. my fiance works in Bloomington...she drove over the bridge northbound 5 minutes before it went down. I decided to avoid the 35W bridge because of construction and went over the 10th Ave. heading south to pick up a friend in uptown at about 10 minutes before 35W collapsed. Unreal...thank god she left work a bit early tonight, don't know if I've ever felt that way before I heard the news on the radio and knew that was the time frame she would be on that bridge. Our prayers go out to everyone down there.

Posts: 285 | Yes very strange, Treats. You were under this bridge recently, you say? Pretty odd to wake up from a nap after heading home early (bad day pain-wise) and the phone starts ringing from all over, my sister and brother from the area checking in, then calls from music freaks I know from Colorado, Chicago, Atlanta. Then calls from work friends and fishing buddies. Text messages even when the cell wasn't able to get a tower or make any calls. Even though I am not a teenage girl I had to text back, which was a new thing for me. Sounds like I'll be taking the bus for work tomorrow, as my office is about 6 blocks from I-35W and Washington Ave. I would expect a ton of traffic will be routed to I-94 from the north, so it will likely be heavy traffic jams tomorrow esp around downtown Mpls. Hope everyone else's friends and family are OK. Gnite, papa joempls

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Wow, what a terrible accident, to think I just drove the rig across it sunday nite, report of 9 dead, and 20 still missing. This will have a terrible impact on the traffic in the TC, they are talking about 2 years before up and running again. Thoughts and prayers for the family's that were impacted by this, our neighbor was called in for support just after she happened. Troyz

It really helps a guy be grateful for what he's got... and puts things in perspective. Fishing is a bit slumped... SO WHAT... my loved ones and I are above the grass today. ... pray and keep on burning.

I have heard from all but one of my buddies who lives in that immediate area and I am hoping like heck that he calls soon because I know he takes that route too and from work each day. Posts: 1438 | PK Talked to a buddy of mine that lives up there. He said that the bridge is his normal route of travel. He knew the construction was there and figured with the Twins game the backup would be worse than usual. He got off the exit before. After figuring out the time frame, he would've been on or at the bridge when it went down. Good thing he decided to avoid the traffic as well. Glad to hear he was OK.... By the way, this is the same guy that was shot coming home from his dad's funeral about 3 months ago. Gangbanger funeral on the route to his house, they were shooting guns and he caught a stray in the arm through the car door. I'm kinda thinking maybe he should buy a lottery ticket or two. | I saw that on CNN and thought I would have been crossing that bridge tonight around that time like have done many times before. It is a terrible tradegy and I think it is amazing that more people weren't killed given the situation. My prayers go out to everyone involved and all their families who had to worry about them. It will prompt many bridge inspections that should have already been done for our safety. Steve

Scott I agree, he needs to buy a Powerball for sure. I thought the exact same thing about the bridge that night. I drive over that bridge at least 2-3 times a day being that my shop is in Blaine and all my semi-conductor accounts are in Bloomington. I knew it would be a traffic mess that evening with the game so I went 10th ave. Good thing.

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | is it not something how the good old u.s.a. gives away a fortune to every other country to fight aids and every other cause yet they can't keep our bridges in good condition. Whats wrong with that picture? Everyone should write your congressmen and complain. Pfeiff

Location: Athens, Ohio | Don, I don't think it's the AIDS money to Africa that is breaking out bank right now. It is like losing two wars at the same time, though. I watched an interview yesterday morning on the Today show with a truck driver who rode the bridge down. He was telling a riveting story about how he was honking at the kids on the school bus when he started seeing bridge girders in his windshield and realized he was looking at the underside of the bridge. He just got to the part about his cab filling with diesel fuel when the news guy cut him off. I thought it was one of the rudest things I'd seen on TV. The driver did have a good line, though. When they asked him how he was doing with his collapsed lung and broken ribs, he said something like, well, I feel like i just fell off a bridge! Love that Minnesotan humor. m
