Posts: 144 Location: Green Bay, WI | Navionics is more accurate on Southern Green Bay. Has hazards like fryingpan shoal etc dead on... you will run aground in 6-9 ft on the lakemaster chip. I marked a waypoint for comparison

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I have both the Navionics north premium and the MN Lakemaster. It is tough for me to read the L.M. while standing up no matter how I set the color(water, background, etc), and after spending several days with it on Mill Lacs I see just how innaccurate itis compared to the Navionics(not that the nav is perfect by any stretch). I am sure, however, that some of the lakes might be better on the Lakemaster than the nav(which is the reason I bought it, for the increased detail on some waters).. If you plan to only buy one chip, and fish WI, MN, LOTW and other arwea of the Midwest, I'd suggest the Navionics. Again, my limited experience with the Lakemaster might not have had me on waters where it shined, and there might be some other settings which improve readability, and hope to learn more about them as time goes on. | Hey Reefer, from my experience the Lakemasters new chip to 3 foot intervals is a better choics on some of the other big MN lakes....so I think it pays to have both...the Nav chip on some of the lakes I was on was so far off it was comical while the LM wasn't dead on it was a bit better....I just use the chips to "get me close" to the breaks and then use icons ect and the locator to feel my way around...i don't think any chip is ever going to be dead on for fishing if you ask me.... I have both the Premium north NAV and the newer version of LM and think having both is the way to go if you fish lots of waters....

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Definately a fact that both are 'off'. No argument there. Both can provide excellent assistance though, especially on new waters. That said I like to be able to at least see the numbers on the screen, which I can do much better with the nav. The LM chip that I have is the brand new MN one, and poorly compared to the nav on Millacs, though as you said was better than nav on other lakes that I cannot remember.... As I said though, if a guy wanted to fork out for just one chip, I feel nav is the clear winner, and with the maps getting better and better each year, the newest models should only be more attractive. Again, it is really opinion based, and if there are some who choose LM hands down on a Lowrance color unit, I want to know how they adjust the colors/background so that it is as legible as the nav chips in sunny conditions. Posts: 1270 | I have a number of different chips and some are more accurate for XYZ lake but are less accurate on another lake - it's a crap shoot! I do agree though that the LM chip's contour lines are difficult to see a lot of times. Personally I ussually use the Hot Spot map that is pre-loaded into my LXX-113Chd as it has the easiert to see contour lines and I like the little "tips" it gives for the different areas.
