Posts: 401 | Has anybody heard how the PMTT is going to set up their format for this tournament? Keith

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Keith I recieved a letter from the PMTT last week, they will be using a combination of Judge boat/photo format. As soon as a fish is hooked you call the judge boat, and once fish is landed you take a photo of the fish on the board the PMTT will be providing, if judge gets there before release they will verify it, or verify the photo on the digital camera. This is what I recall from the letter. Troyz

| this is the format the minnesota muskie trail uses. All fish get release well and swim away. It is a great format. You take a pic on a board and you have to have a sticker on the board that they give you that morning. Works awsome | |||

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | All fish swam away the way the P.M.T.T. was doing it also. I trust a judge much more so then a picture wnich could be tricky with certain camera positioning. I think the camera thing just leaves some room for doubt. Pfeiff P.s. My prayers and thoughts go out to those impacted by the awfull bridge mishap.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Don The min size will be 40", the camera can be a tricky thing, but the with a good laptop you can zoom in on the board a verify if the head is on the bump board, and the were the tail is on the board. Paul has had to make some changes on fish that were registered both to the good and bad. Last year on Vermillion the winning team I believe scored a 40" fish, when they view the pic it was only 39 3/4"(good thing they didn't need it), Also he has to add length to some fish reported. Once you take the pic, we placed the fish back in the net, verified the pic was good and properly verified the length, then released them. So it is upto the team to get a pic that accurately represent the fish. It is what it is, and the Minnesota DNR has made the ruling, and event in minnesota must comply to the rules. Troyz

Last year on Vermillion the winning team I believe scored a 40" fish, when they view the pic it was only 39 3/4"(good thing they didn't need it), Also he has to add length to some fish reported. the Hartman's also round up to the nearest inch/half-inch. for example, my fish this year actually measured to the 3/4", but for tourney scoring purposes it rounded up to the next full inch. at 1/2" and below, it rounds to the 1/2". this allows for the reduced precision of not having a judge actually in the boat, as zooming in on the pictures can easily give you accuracy to the degree necessary to round off in this manner. as long as the practice is evenly applied to all participants, it's fair. and, oh yeah, best for the fish.

| What if the fish is hooked in the gills and dies? Or is poorly handled and dies? The team will get full credit when they shouldn't. So a live body to witness the release is a must in my opinion. The Hartman format is good for the Hartman tourneys, but his events are low dollar (on your honor) situations. Bring the purse up to 20 grand and you are looking for trouble with his system. How about finding a floater? One released in practice from the day before that isn't quite making it? Under this format, someone could pick that fish out of the water, lay it on the board and get credit. Need a live body witnessing the release, period. | |||

Posts: 3165 | Bottom line,,,,Holding the fish at the side of the boat is "illegal" here in MN,,,live with it or kiss tourneys goodbye or get involved and change it,,but right now its the format that BEST works with the law

Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Hooker, exactly. I've never found a 'floater' and have fished dozens of Muskie events. If the fish looks like it is dead, Paul would disqualify it in a heartbeat. The pictures are really clear, and are very conclusive, IMHO. Here's an example: The only way to check any other problems with this format is to go Pro/Am and change the Co Angler every day so the Pro and Co are not acquainted and must toe the line. PWT and FLW operate using that system. Attachments ---------------- 52.jpg (89KB - 113 downloads)
