how fast, would a 5 horsepower motor push a 15 or 16 foot flat bottom aluminum boat?
(if i didnt have 400 pounds of gear in it). just 2 people and minimal equipment.

I HAD AN AIR COOLED 5 HP ABOUT A STONE AGE AGO AND IT WAS ON A 14 FT V AND IT WAS BETTER THAN ROWING BUT NOT TOO MUCH FASTER. IT WILL WORK BUT DON'T EXPECT GREAT THINGS.

Look at last months Bass and Walleye Boats page on the web. There is an article that deals with kicker motors and it will give a formula to calculate how fast a motor will push a boat.

Hi Tom, I would be surprised if you got more than 5 or 6 mph out of it. Martin has a 12ft sea nymph with a 6hp and gets about 8mph with both of us in and just over 11 on his own.
