Posts: 2024 | I pity the muskie that crosses the path of any of these baits, the rest of the A Team is still in transit. I'm gettin twitchy... T-minus 6 days 'till LOTW... Once it starts it can never be stopped!!!!! The B-squad is sitting tight in the "bullpen" should we get into some trouble. Attachments ---------------- P1000452.JPG (222KB - 124 downloads)

| What is the small crank bait with the pink head above the crazy crank? Looks like a custom identical to one of mine. You must have a connection! | |||

| I thought the same thing....Dude, where are the 25 gliders that you need? That's what makes us all different I guess. What ever you throw, good luck with it. | |||

| Love your selection so far but I would include the H20 Recon, Legend Outcast, Legend Perchbait, and 9 inch Grandma | |||

Posts: 2024 | Not a big glider fan. Just haven't found a niche for them. Looks like I need 21 more to reach your suggestion, Beav. Guess I've got a lot of catching up to do (there's a busted up Slammer Drop Belly hanging from my rafter actually, but he won't be making the trip)!!! Steve, Roger makes some great baits, but I've got to give props to Jake Schinderle and his Hoodini. I stand behind his products 110%. The remainder of my A Team is currently in his hands, though hopefully in my hands soon! Have yet to test out any Legends and the 9 inch Grandmamma is there, left of the Squirko. Guest, Apparently we've got the same connection considering I highly doubt very many people know what the original Crazy Crank crankbaits look like Edited by esox50 7/11/2007 12:11 AM

Posts: 572 | seeing your bucktails reminds me to get some white twister tails. I also like the double tail similar to the one on the black bucktail. I 've been wanting to try some red tails too. Somehow I had gotten away from using the tails. Your bucktails reminds me I should be using more of them. Thanks for the reminder.

Posts: 2024 | ETL, The Hoodinies I was referring to are side to side topwaters. They are the only zig zag topwaters I'll use up there. "Mr. T" is on the way!

Posts: 785 | I brought a ton of "stuff" on my trip and ended up using 8 baits all week. I've always wanted to lay out ALL of my stuff out like that and take a picture but it would just about take a full day to dig everything out and put it all back. Great looking baits though, a couple of those custom ones I am a little envious of. Here is my pre lotw picture and one before the muskies inc. outing this spring. Posts: 2024 | Love all the flashabou baits, Musky-Skunk! They are fast becoming some of my favorite "bucktail" material. musky-skunk - 7/11/2007 10:12 AM I brought a ton of "stuff" on my trip and ended up using 8 baits all week. HAHA, that's what I was thinking to myself when I was laying all those baits out. Of the 70+ in that picture I'm sure I'll find less than 10 that will produce on our trip.

Posts: 21 | I agree with the above posts. Every year I buy hundreds of dollars worth the new stuff. Before my trips I spend countless hours theorizing on what will work. Shaprening hooks, tweaking lures, walking down to the pond throwing them a few casts, and then tweaking more, etc......basically I am ate up with the prep work stuff..............................then I go to Canada and always start with my favorite black and nickel bladed bucktail on one rod, a black body white tail bulldawg on another, and a bably loon topraider on my third rod. And then I basically end using those same lures for the week unless somebody in our group really gets it going on something else. I bring all the new stuff, the cool new gliders, the new big bladed bucks, and all the new soft plastics, and then I basically throw it as a diversion for 15 -20 minutes and then go back to the old reliables. We have a guy in our group that usually brings only about 30 lures total for an entire week. About 10 bucktails in various sizes and colors, 5 or 6 prop style topwaters, 5 or 6 spinerbaits, a couple of big cranks, and 4 or 5 gliders that he never even puts in the boat unless a cold front comes through. He usually outfishes everyone, especially on numbers. While we are all sitting in the boat changing lures, fixing hooks, etc... he has a lure wet.

Posts: 785 | Hey, the way I look at it is, if you need a bait.. you got it. You may not use them but they do little good back in the states. My problem is when I am going through boxes looking for something and I start finding ones I forgot I owned! Glad you like the flashibou tails, I mostly make my own but as many good musky fishers I have also purchased a large selection of Double Cow Girls that are destined to see a lot of use this year. Hope you have a great trip.

Posts: 284 | Hollywood, I honestly don't see a single lure in that entire photo that looks remotely like something a muskie would bite. Tell you what ~ i'll take that "mess" off of your hands for $150 and you can start over. DEAL ?? T-Rex

| Heading to LOTW on Friday myself. For the last two weeks it's been hard to focus on anything but the trip... Grogery lists, breaking down the tackle, cleaning reels & replacing the line. The pictures are awsome, looks just like my boat with all of the lures spread out. I have it down to 4 plano boxes marked A+ Topwaters (Pacemakers, Topraiders, Weagles, Murauders, Rumblers) & A+ Bucktails (Cowgirls, Shumway Flashers, Mepps) The B boxes have gliders, suicks, bulldawgs & a few shallow invaders & crankbaits. I have it on good report that cowgirls are the go to bait so far this week, just thought I would share that! Don't forget the bug spray, flashlights & extra batteries.. Best luck & have a safe trip. I will be staying at Frank Walsh's crib for the week. Mike | |||

Posts: 2024 | I figure each bait has its own niche. For instance, the bucktail I turn to when I want to cover water or am experiencing a high amount of activity and want a high-hooking percentage bait. If I'm not the one throwing the bucktail, usually I'm tossing a Shallow Invader worked hard and erratically. Suicks on the rocks, can't beat 'em. Topwater is a nice compliment to bucktails over weedbeds or when the fish are active. High buoyancy cranks get the nod in the slop. Just rip-pause them through the nasty stuff. More neutral or less "aggressively" buoyant cranks on the rocks or when the fish need a little more coaxing to open their yaps. Bulldawgs work well on small reefs where you can work them high on top and drop them deep off the edges. Reworking a big fish or tossing back to a fish I'll throw a glider, WTD topwater, or an Invader. Some of those are obvious, but as DougJ (?) often says lures are just tools. Those are the niches I can think of, though usually conditions on the water will dictate new niches for certain baits. Can you die from "hyper-anticipation"?????

| Dude, Brandyn's gonna catch a 50"er on one of the three baits that I loaned him. You can put that statement in a box and throw a 'gauranteed' label on it. | |||

One week we were on LOTW and I had the ONLY BAIT GOING amongst a whole box of APPARENT REJECTS. Also, all of the baits that my Muskie fishing companions selected for use were detested during that week-long event. We never saw a fish look at anything other than the bait I pulled out and used. The bait I had nearly even put a 30 pound northern in the boat, but BONE could not figure the fish location out as it was nearly DARK. So the NET stood silent as the fish wallowed at boatside. Finally, the fish got tired of waiting so long, made a sudden burst, and was gone with the bait. Thankfully, I had more of them with me. The bait OF CHOICE was the TRIPLE T! For those of you not in the know, that is a bucktail. Heck, I am wondering if MOULDY, himself, and I are the only ones that know about the Triple T?!?! That week, I probably could have sold the Triple Ts that I had with me and retired early. I must be a glutton for punishment! Don Swanson, Green Bay
