Location: De Pere Wisconsin | My 06 Esox Mag has the "standard" hatches where you turn the dial and open the hatch. I have never had the keys, and even if I did I wouldn't leave anything in there simply because the latches inside are plastic. Does anyone have a good solution to make the compartments secure ( or more secure) as I would love to leave my boat unattended at times and don't want to have to remove my rods and electronics etc...I recall seeing a expanding bar in some catalog that went across the whole deck of the boat and made it impossible to open the hatches - anything like that anyone uses on their Tuffy's?
Pictures would be cool if you have an ingenious idea! |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Metal or plastic ( Tuffy has used both), the latches available for ANY fishing boat are not that difficult to force with a pry bar or screwdriver. If someone wants into that storage badly enough they will get it. The locks are more or less to keep out the folks who aren't dead set on a break in. Ask your dealer for the keys; they are shipped in the lip of the front storage compartments. If the dealer doesn't have any, contact Tuffy Boats. |

Location: De Pere Wisconsin | I totally understand the limitations of the standard locking hatches - wasn't implying that the design was bad. In my garage I installed these hooks on either side of the service door that a 2x4 slides into after a lock smith recomended the contraption - cheap and easy. I could swear I saw a device that laid across the deck and prohibited the whole HATCH from opening. Sort of like what semi trailers use to secure a partial load...spent a little while searching the interenet to no avail. I recall cabelas having them but couldn't locate them today. Any help would be appreciated. |
