| My dad, brother, and myself are heading up to the Cable area the second week of July to do some fishing. The people we are going up with have only ever fished for northern and bass and have no idea where any muskie lakes are in this area. We are looking for a few smaller lakes that we can chase muskies on and mabey a few accidental pike as well. This will be my dads first muskie trip and I really want to get him one in the boat. We practice CPR and make sure to take good care of whatever lake we are on. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. We are only fishing out of our 17' jon boat with a 25hp merc so that is why we are looking for some smaller less pressured lakes. Agian thanks in advance for any info offered up. |

the WI DNR lists muskie lakes sorted by county, type of boat launch, size/acres, class/quality, and reproduction category.
these should give you a good place to start your search:
Ashland County:

| Try heading east a few miles from Cable on Highway M to Day Lake, just northwest of the town of Clam Lake. Day Lake is the perfect size for your boat and motor (625 acres), scenic (lies within the Chequamegon National Forest), and full of little muskies. There is a 28-inch minimum length limit, but a more appropriate regulation would be a slot, allowing harvest of overabundant small muskies while protecting some mid-size fish. If your Dad catches a 29-32 incher and would like to keep his first musky, you'd probably be doing THAT lake a favor to harvest the fish. If he catches a rare musky over 34 inches long in Day Lake, it's probably a female, and you'd be doing the lake a favor to release her. Have fun!

I will be heading up to Lake Namakagon east of Cable on Saturday until Tuesday. I will be fishing Day lake also. Send me a Pm next week sometime and I will give you a detailed report on what was working for me.
