I've come across a really good deal on a new tuffy esox magnum. The motor choice I have is a 50 horse Suzuki 4 stroke or a 60 horse Suzuki 4 stroke. The 60 horse weighs about 120 pounds more than the 50. How much faster will the boat go with the heavier 60 horse? I've gotten some guess's to only gaining about 2 more mph. Plus, any opinions on the Suzuki? thanks

Wow, 120 lbs? And how much more $$$$$ for the $60? This boat wasn't built to be a speed demon. Can't ask for a better boat to fish from for muskies, though.

There is one guide I know that had a Merc 60 4 stroke on his. He really only needed about a 30 or 40, as I don't think he's EVER gone WOT with that 60! []

Unless the 60 Suzzie has EFI vs carbs for the 50, I think I'd go with the 50. The extra 10 HP will be offset by the extra weight, I believe. Plus the 50 should cost a little less.

Hope this helps.

Good luck,

Shep

Outside of the technical data, if you are on the far end of a lake, or chain of lakes, and you have stayed too long as a storm is rolling in, I've got 10 reasons on why the bigger motor is preferable.

I have seen them run with a 50 suzi four stroke and they do very well. Ask Ty Sennet he had one.

Jason,
Actually I am pretty sure Ty has the 60HP 4-Stroke. I have also fished with Corey Meyer who has the 60HP 4-Stroke and I wouldn't say the speed is the only advantage, but the overall power to push the boat. There is absolutely no lag in power, and the combo of boat and motor seems perfectly matched on the 60HP.

Out of curiosity what kind of speeds are people seeing out of the Esox Mag?
