So, what do you guys think we can expect on Saturday?

Fish still in the weeds? Rocks and weeds? Rocks?

Will be interesting to hear everyone's take on the how they approach the opener on the NW Angle ...

We will start out in a few weedy bays that have usually produced in the past, but most of my efforts will be on the rocks and rock weed combo outside of the bays. I think this weeks warm up will really get them moving!! Can't wait!!!

I heard last night that the water's so cold that they may not be done (or even started with) spawn.

I was up there last weekend, temps around oak were 61 to 63. After this last warm up I bet some of the bays will be close to 70.
IAJustin any areas you recommend?
Thanks

Ah.....as you know too many good spots however if you are having problems putting fish in the net "close to home" I would make the run to Sabaskosing bay....if you like fishing weeds?

Leaving for the Angle in 16 days! Any reports from the opener would be greatly appreciated. H20 temps, water levels, hot lures, what the fish are relating to, etc….

Anybody up the week of the 30th that wants to get together for a cold one & compare notes shoot me a pm.

Water temp's are 65 degree and creaping up with air temps in the upper 80's. There is heavy rain expected tonight and tomorrow which is expected to raise the water level a few inches. Currently the water level is near record lows, down three feet.

Check this web site which has a live dock cam: http://www.yahooey.com/new2/dockcamera.htm. there are more photo over views in the main yahooey site of LOW. I will be heading up to the Woods June 30 and will be there for two weeks. Any reports would be greatly appriciated.

guys,
i know this isn't lowd's but haven't seen any responses from anyone actually from there real time.
just thought i'd pass this info from what i've seen while walleye fishing and reports from other anglers.
it appears regardless of water temps that the muskies have spawned some time ago as we have had quite afew caught incidently, more so than most years while fishing walleyes/bass/pike to 54" with most being 45-49". i have personally seen/helped water release 3 of them caught off the dock as well as first hand info from some of the guides whose guests hooked them and brought them along side of the boats.
they all have appeared to have been spawned out and only 2 had any spawning marks on them. twice in the past week guests reported double follows of 2 big muskies chasing hooked pike or walleyes to the boat and another guest had an estimated 54"+ along side the boat with a walleye sideways and another with a pike sideways. i had a guest have one about 50" and another about 45" chasing and trying to grab a perch monday from the back of a bay with a creek flowing in in less than 5' of water. these double follows make you wonder if they are indeed done spawning but all fish brought along side the boat were definatly spawned out or males.
most have been encountered on flats and or island slots with emerging weed growth which could be expected however with hot relativley flat days we have also found some walleyes already moving to midlake humps and one of the guides had a double follow on a walleye yesterday off the edge of a hump from about 18" but the hump is has 50+ of water around it. weeds are starting to grow fast now.
personally i would fish it all concentrating on weedy areas and shallow rocks and points, clusters and island saddles near bays and wherever guys are jerking alot of walleyes then go from there not discarding anything from what i've seen walleyes doing lately.
herbie

good luck!! let know what you find in return.

Now if that doesn't get you pumped up nothing will. Great report Steve. We have met on numerous ocassions in Rosemont as I have been working with Steve and Russ at the WBC booth. What are your water level like on Eagle?
Have a great season. See you again in January.

thanks mon.good luck to you too.
water levels have come up quite a bit actually to the point where it is much higher than last fall and on river systems near us alot.
oops forgot surface water temps even in main lake basins are above 70 now and from what i've seen i'd be throwing twitched minnowbaits and jerks cause no one has hooked any on spinnerbaits fishing for bass/pike but besides jigs and spinner rigs most have been on struggling walleyes/pike/perch and twitching stuff like husky jerks for pike.
for whats it's worth anyway, might help a few.

it's really not that difficult to figure out unless you stubbornly think you have to fish weeds and they're not there, if the weeds ain't up they won't be there simple as that, fish the rocks,i know water is low but it's rising on most bodies of water and when that happens fish will also follow it into the reeds and wood. it's just the primary locations and types of areas you'll have to search out but don't overlook any type of structure especially wood and shallow rocks and island saddles near spawning bays early in the season if it's available and if weeds aren't up you'll be surprised at how far out they could out into the main lake and be on shallow rock structure especially moving up on sunny days cause when it ain't normal conditions they will also suspend alot with a common depth of around 18'.
