I understand there is a place in Fort Francis/International Falls where you can claim an immediate refund for GST taxes. Where is it from Trader Bob's? I've usually plan to mail the reciepts when I get back. Usually forgetting and making annual donations to the Canadian government.

You can get your GST rebate at the duty free shop in Fort Francis. Go in there and get your rebate refunded in Canadian funds and leave and go around the corner and convert it to US funds.

The receipt(s) must be in your name and you must show photo ID.

What is GST? So, on a reciept for $3000 to a resort would that have any "GST"?

I was under the impression the GST rebate has gone away. Was up Trout fishing last winter and the resort owner told me that. Anybody know if this is true?

http://www.rev.gov.on.ca/english/resources/visitors.html

8% Retail Sales Tax - refund on over $50 per invoice

6% Goods and Service Tax - over $50 per invoice

Most all lodging includes GST tax. Some include dockage/some don't.

Most resorts/lodges will inform vistors about the tax, etc.

Make sure all receipts include your name along with the taxes listed.

Once I stayed at a small motel that didn't list the tax. I only had a receipt for my credit card charge. Not a lot of money, but some I could have reclaimed.

To my understanding they will NOT be giving refunds going forward. I know a group who went up in May for pike - they stopped (along with many others) and were told "not anymore"

read the bottom of that link - refunds eliminated!

good catch......I overlooked the bottom about the changes....ugh....NO MORE REFUNDS.

I don't think I will ever learn to read an entire article. I would have thought that type of information would have appeared at the top of the list. Oh well, I guess it will save me some time by not stopping at the Duty Free Store.

found out last year they don't refund houseboats, only cabins or resorts. Now it's no refunds on anything?
