what is a good blade and blade size for burnin bucktails. i was thinking something like a #5 or #6 french blade or a #6 or #7 fluted blade. are those good choices? any suggestions?

The size of blade should be determined by the overall size of the lure. When I'm wanting to create a faster and/or deeper running bucktail I will usually choose a willow or french blade.

To keep it high in the water I use double #10s. To keep my hands/arms from going out I use a power handle on my reels too. I also have smaller bladed bucktails so I can burn and keep deeper with a little extra weight on them.
