Hi all,

I recently received an entire grocery bag of dyed deer tails so I've decided I've got to start making some bucktails, even though I'm not a big bucktail guy. Obviously I have no idea of what I'm doing and am starting to gather the items I need to get started on the cheap. Moores Lures has been a huge help with the cheap part but I still have a few questions.

What do you tie the hair to? I'm not finding anything that looks like it fits the bill and am quite frankly confused about it.

Is an egg sinker ideal for weight, or is there a weight that will prevent the entire bucktail from spinning in circles?

Lastly, any advice? It looks pretty simple and cheaper than I expected! Maybe I'll actually start to like bucktails more if i make my own. The guy who gave it to me said he was trading all the hair for one bucktail, so I at least have to make one winner.

HAH! I've already answered my first question, looks like coiled wire is the way to go.

If you are talking with Dick you are already far ahead of most

He will not sell you stuff to make a bad lure. Just let him know what you want and he will take care of you. Otherwise, go out an dbuy the lure you like and look at it or better yet take it apart and see what makes it "tick".

PS-Post some pictures when you are done with a few. Always nice to see some new lures.

If you can make it to Appleton, WI, I teach folks how to tie/ build bucktails for $25.00. if it takes all day, it takes all day.
