| I'm heading to Cass Lake the first week of July. I've never fished the lake before and was wondering if anyone had any advice on techniques and baits. |

| hire a guide for half day or full day pump him for info hot patterns, i.e. baits structure presentation....... any good guide will answer all questions to the best of their professional knowledge, a cheap investment in the grand sceme of things |

Location: Brainerd Area | If you can aford to hire a guide that is the way to learn the lake fast, shorten your learning curve. If you cant. Spend alot of time in Allens Bay. Alot of structure and you can fish it for a week and not fish it all. Many many fish in just this bay alone. Fish Potato Islands, sunken islands and the cabage on the shoreline. Dont forget the open water as well. Find some baitfish and start casting.

Cass Lake is an awesome lake. Can be very intimidating, as well, to the first time visitor. Many mid-lake humps and reefs. So much structure, where to start is the million dollar question. Like Duck said, I would hire a guide. Brian Jones is very resonably priced. Either of these guides, I'm quite sure, can cut your learning curve tremendously!
