The Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) will be hosting a one-day qualifying tournament on Butternut Lake for the seventh year in a row. This year, however, will be the first year that the WMT has hosted a Sunday tournament on Butternut Lake on June 3rd. The WMT’s Butternut event has filled for the last four years and this year’s Sunday schedule should attract even more interest, causing the tournament to fill more quickly than in the past.

The Butternut Lake event is one of the most popular stops for the WMT for a very good reason – the quality muskie fishery. Butternut is one of the best muskie lakes in Wisconsin and has traditionally drawn anglers from many states. The friendly folks of Park Falls and Butternut and the very accommodating businesses, make fishing Butternut Lake - as some competitors have stated – “a real fun tournament to fish”.

With a field of sixty teams, the Butternut tournament will pay out $10,000.00 for first place. However, a team could be taking home $30,000.00 for their weekend effort if they complete the “Muskie Double Header™”. A team must win the WMT’s Butternut tourney and take first place the day before at the Phillips event. Accomplishing such a feat would earn the team $10,000.00 for each tournament won (on the same weekend), plus a $10,000.00 bonus

The first place prize money is $10,000.00 in one-day tournaments that have a field of 60 teams. The WMT is open to the public to compete in all qualifying tournaments. A team can fish one event, or as many they prefer. The cost per tournament per two-angler team is only $300.00. The WMT is a twenty-one tournament circuit, hosting tournaments on some of the world’s best muskie waters in Wisconsin. Men, women and young anglers of all skill levels have enjoyed the camaraderie and competition that the WMT has offered over the years. To enter the tournament and for more information log onto the WMT’s website (www.wmtseries.com), email [email protected], or call 715-369-1394.
