This rod has been kind of lost in all the excitement generated by the 79XXXHF, but the specs look pretty good... 4-10 ounce rating. Not quite as much backbone but plenty for mag dawgs and probably ok for occasionally throwing a pounder. Does anyone have any experience with this rod or blank?

To answer your question, I don't have any experience with this rod. It's pretty new, so I don't think a whole lot of people will have a lot of experience with it at this point.

On a side note, you mentioned this rod has been sort of overlooked b/c of the XXXHF Premier. Part of it is b/c it's so new, and for me personally, it's the $340.00 price tag as the reason I'll be overlooking it. I've picked one up at several stores and would love to have one, but for $340.00, it better come with a beautiful blond woman and a case of beer with every cast. JMO!

I have built a couple sticks using that blank. St Croix really did a nice job with the new tournament series.

I think there is little to compare with these. The XXXH is really a big bait rod were the SCIV can be more of an any bait rod. I prefer the mega swimbait bass blank. It is not as heavy with a softer tip.

Still all about preference. Hats off to St Croix this year for some nice upgrades.

hello, last year i gotto fish with jim saric and he let me use his legend tm 86xhf rod after mine broke. let me tell you what, that is the best rod ive ever used. i was using it to launch magdawgs all day. im a little on the portly side and the extra length realy helped out my back. i like the stiffer tip for the heavier plastics. but as stated before, the 360.00 price tag is alittle too steep for me also. im lookig also at the 7-9 xxxhf. i think that will do just fine. i just received a pounder dawg and i think im going to need a steel rod to throw her. geez shes heavy. thake care engrbry

i have the 76XHF, and it's great. fantastic rod. actually, it's what i caught the tiger on today. i can only imagine the 8'6" is just as good, only slightly beefier.

I got the rod this winter, but have only used it once so far. It works great for heavy baits. I threw the 13" suzy sucker a lot with it and it didn't seem way too heavy for the rod. Its great for mag dawgs, kickin minnows, and other heavy soft plastic lures.
