For those of you who have experience running muskie baits behind dipsey diver, and actually hooked them up and the such not just had the guide do it, and have seen some success....I'm looking to you. A friend's case of permanent ____ now has me fishing this next weekend alone, right after a massive cold front, so I'm thinking of trying to do some precision trolling.....who has tips about what has actually WORKED for them. Thanks!

Drop Ben Keung an email or a PM....we experimented with this tactic when I fished with him so I am sure he can point you in the right direction.

It's when you plan fishing trips, then can never go because you're "too busy" or "dont have anyone to take care of the dog"....but really because you dont want to go out in the cold.

Slamr
put a couple lil ernies or hooker shads out with 10-20' of line and hug the breaks.
Hit clean bottom where you can.
you can pop a 32" under these conditions.
3-3.5mph

Just hook a one pound weight on the front snap of a 5 foot single strand trolling leader to get most baits down deeper. Inexpensive and works great!

Slamr, this system works and as you probably know Indianas record was taken doing this with Dipsey Bulldogs. I have run many different baits behind dipseys with some luck. I just last weekend ran 9" suzy suckers behind them, no hookups but they worked great. I weight shallow models but I think the heavier sinking models would get e little deeper. I run a 4to5 foot leader between dipsey and bait and I run a a 16' leader at the dipsey to prevent cutoffs from musky hitting the dipsey. Also be cautious what length leader you run between bait and dipsey especialy if you are fishing by yourself, kinda hard do net fish standing on your toes with rod tip 10' in the air ..........Good luck Andrew.....Doug Bradley

I dont troll much, but have experimented with Dipseys and sliders before and actually caught a few this way.
You need to use the magnum dipseys, or sliders if you can find them. Mag dipseys are more readily available, but mag sliders are best because you can set the bait as far behind the slider as you want, where as with the dipseys you have to set the line at a determined distance (usually 3-5" behind the dipsey) and when you hook a fish by yourself it can be tough to net it alone..The slider just slides down to the leader, which makes it a lot easier to net your own fish

last summer we were doing well fishing Nut Busters through the slop when A major cold front pushed a majority of the fish out deep for a few days. I made the change, but couldnt keep anything in the "zone" so I snapped the same spinnerbaits on 2 dipseys and we ended up boating a couple running the baits 10-20' down. Ive also caugth a few trolling swim baits deep in summer.

The downfall, is that if you get any weeds on the dipsey it will spin out and take out any other lines in its range. If you use any size dispey except the mag and go over 3.0 it will also spin out, tangling lines (learned that one the hard way, as Pointerpride can vouch for LOL) Even with the mag dispey, I still dont go any faster than 3.5

I also believe theres a way to effectivly fish live bait on dipseys...I just havent figured out how yet.
