Posts: 267 Location: Right behind you (tap, tap) BOOO | I know it's not WI, but thought it may be useful to others. Here is a nice link to the the U of MN, it's a chart that monitors Ice on Lakes throughout the regions of Minnesota. http://climate.umn.edu/doc/ice_out/ice_out_status_07.htm Esox23

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | the lakes are full of crappie fishermen today ... saw a truck on boom yesterday although you'd be nuts to do that now. weather is really mild for the first time so although there's lots of ice ... ma nature is working overtime now.

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I was up to see Mr. Worrall on Thursday and I saw trucks on multiple lakes up there. Mr.Worrall said there was still 20+ inches on the local lake he was fishing on Thursday. So lots of ice in the Rhinelander area, won't be till probably early/mid April before ice is out up here.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | remember cracks this time of year it doesn't matter how thick it is ... water is in the cracks and holes and grows gaps quick ... no doubt lots of fishing left but the weather has changed huge with some rain ... you do the math.

Location: The Yahara Chain | Our ice here in southern Wisconsin went from 20" to 8" in two days. We now have some open water and Sunday's weather should get all of the ice off of the lakes in Madison. 69 degrees, thunderstorms with high winds...good bye ice.

Posts: 149 | "How much ice is on the lakes in northern WI and is it turning black yet." Can't tell you how thick, but you can check for yourself twice each day at the following link, provided it isn't cloudy. You can easily make out all the larger lakes and you'll know for yourself the day the ice disappears without having to rely on reports from others. Click on the "Lake Superior" link for all of northern Wisconsin and the "Lake Michigan" link for all of eastern Wisconsin. If you click on "Synoptic" you get the entire Great Lakes region, including all of Wisconsin. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html Edited by esoxcpr 3/25/2007 2:44 PM

Posts: 52 | Rain here today and a high around 66-degrees, here Sawyer County. Brule River area got a major thunderstorm, lots of rain. Ice is blacking-up and the rain helps. Open at Herman's Landing today moving out each side of bridge. Flowage is going to be low, low, low.

Posts: 157 Location: Wausau/Phillips WI | Crappie fisherman out on Duroy in Phillips on Saturday with ATV's, not sure how thick ice was. On Solberg there were a couple guys out just North of Roll-in Point. I couldn't get out from my cottage on the East side. I tried but broke thru about 25 ft. out in 3' of cold cold water.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Last Tuesday I drove my truck out on a Chippewa County lake with no problem. Yesterday we were barely able to get off the shoreline by foot. Last night we got rain, today temps were in the 70's with a lot of sun. Didn't even try getting out today, because I don't think we would have been able to get on the lake without waders. When it starts to go it really goes. Ice was getting pretty soft yesterday. curleytail

Posts: 52 | Going to be open water early I bet now. Still need the rain. Excel Energy estimated that the Upper Chippewa Basin was down about 23-inch in over all rain levels. Supposed to be another near-record low water level for Lake Superior as well.
