I have made a few baits from oak and like it for its durability and density.  It is dificult to seal the open grain and I have had issues with developing bubbles over these same areas when applying the 2 ton epoxy coat.  Wondering what guys use to avoid this.

Location: Eden Prairie & Pine Island
Two coats of primer and a lot of heavy breathing when the clearcoat is setting up!

Seriously, I simply find I need to monitor the oak lures a bit more when the envirotex is setting up to keep the bubles out. Usually a little CO2 from my breath will resolve it. After first 30-40 minutes I have pretty well whipped the bubbles.

Oak is tough to seal as you probably know, it seems to hydraulic worse than most when water gets in. I used multiple coats of primer when I was using oak and min of two etex coats but three works best and always keep superglue on hand to seal holes after catching fish { you dont want water getting in at all} Personally I would choose a different wood that is similar in weight and density like hard Maple. This is why I went over to injection for my Warlocks......Hope this Helps....Doug Bradley
