How many of you guy's think that cutting the hooks and putting split rings on your Hawgs ruins the action?[:knockout:]

It all depends on the size of the hawg and which hook. Split rings do hurt the action of any hawg if you put them on the back hook, I learned this a couple years ago. The front two hooks are fine with split rings on the 8" model, but I'd be careful with the 6" and put new cotters in that one. My 8's actually run just as good or better with rings on the front two hooks(mustad wide bends), and I don't lose as many fish due to leverage(not that you lose that many the other way). But do not put one on the back, as the sise to side action is really impeded. One thing that has really helped the action of my hawgs is not using a snap on the attatchment, and using a split ring up front.

Last fall I split ringed one of my better 6 incher's and it lost all of it's side to side swing.
This winter I removed the split rings and went back to plain old cotter pins. I'll take my chances as far as lost fish. I would rather have them hit the bait and get off than not the even look at it!

I've ruined a few by cutting hooks out of fish. I'd catch a fish, have to cut a hook or two, put on split rings and the lure would suck! I also agree that the back one is worst of all. One lure that I had to cut the back hook on would do nothing when I reattached the hook with a split ring. I took the hook and ring off and threw it out and it worked great! Now I throw it with two hooks. Weird baits, but I don't leave home without them.

hmm... wish this post had come up earlier, I bought my first reef hawg earlier this winter during a "why can't I fish" frenzy and the first thing I did once I got home was complain, dang there's no split rings on this baby, snip snip snip, clip clip clip, admire -- ah, split rings on, she's ready to go. Waa-aa-aa

Does anyone know where you can get the cotter pins for 6" and 8" hawgs? I've been looking for these for awhile now and haven't found them.

Any help is appreciated,
