I'm thinking of renting a boat from the marina on Kinkaid but it is a 16ft Jon boat with only a 9.9hp motor on it. This will be my first time fishing on Kinkaid so I was wondering if this is too small and too slow to get around the lake?

You will be fine with that size boat. Just pull out of the marina and start fishing, there are some good spots in the immediate area.

Josh,
You'll be fine. Not a lot of big waves and wind back in the coves - getting across the main lake will just take a little extra time. Go slower and toss out a trolling line.
Let me know when you want to meet to go over the map - if you have not bought one, you can borrow mine, unless you want your own. I have time this weekend if you want to get together.

J Wood, I don't think the boat size is too small for kinkaid at all. I spent an extended weekend fishing at kinkaid from a jon boat with 3 grown men in the boat and there were no complaints/worries. Although it was terribly cramped with 3 monster tackle boxes along with 2-3 rods a piece + net and etc. If safety is your only concern though, you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever.
