I would like to start making some of my own jerkbaits, probably the suick style of lures.  My question is, what type of wood works the best for making these lures and where is the best place to buy the wood.  Will places like Home Depot have the right stuff?  Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

I believe that suicks are made of pine. Cedar would also be a good wood for a dive & rise. The wood anywhere should be good enough. After all, a tree is a tree.

I think suicks are made from pine. You would be alright to find some general wood types like pine and cedar from a chain. If you can find a custom cabinetry shop or specialty wood shop you will be able to get some better cuts and different species.
