Posts: 169 | If you rigged a single hook weedless (behind a spinnerbait or bucktail) with a big plastic twister tail or shad, do you think it would effect the hook-up percentage? Or would it pop free from the soft plastic body and bury itself just fine? Thanks.

Have you ever had to pry open a muskies mouth, Incredible jaw strength. It should work just fine. The Mr. twistersuper top prop uses the same concept. ![]()

Posts: 169 | "jaw strength" - never thought about that. Now that I think about it, kind of a dumb question. Thanks.

Posts: 382 | Jaw strength has nothing to do with it. You will have a very hard time hooking up with this in my opinion. I would leave the hook exposed

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Ever try using the mr. twister superprop bait? Hooking percentage sucks! But also take a look at Jim Korducki from Ducktail Lures' WeedWarrior bait. Weedless and a good hook up percentage. Rigging weedless can be done, just do it right!

Posts: 382 | Raider150 - 1/30/2007 3:23 PM if bass can do it why can't a muskie? :) Are the two mouths REMOTELY the same, NO! One is harder and bonier than all heck with rows of teeth. The othe is soft and made up of tissue not bone. You will have a hard enough time hooking up with an exposed hook, trust me. Anyone ever hooked up on a top prop?

Posts: 434 Location: searchin for 50 | very true their mouths aren't the same . muskies eat bass anyway. Youcould still rig it weedless just push the hook through and then slide the plastic back so its barely covering the tip of the hook. ![]()

Posts: 171 | "tex-posed" is how the bass boys refer to it. (I read "In-fisherman" & "Field & Stream", and practice my casting, check lure action, etc. on a real nice local bass pond ![]() Erieboy75

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I've thrown the Top Prop quite a bit on some nasty slop and it goes through everything, but the hooking percentage is downright terrible. It has put a few fish in the boat on otherwise zero action days.

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | Should not be a problem but skin hook it. This is where you just slide the hook slightly under the skin of the tail used and to the side of it. I have showed this in seminars and have done it this way for years nows and it works fine. By doing it this way your pushing the hook through a minimum of plastic tail. Pfeiff

Posts: 160 Location: Carney, Mi (in da UP eh!) | Looking weedless why not try www.neversnag.com replacement hooks, they offer double hooks or single with the patented spring hook guard, they will be available at Milw. Musky Show at the UP Musky Products booth, these are the hooks that are on the ducktail "Weed Warrior" if you don't like the thought of changing a treble to a double think of adding 2 doubles and making it a quad, the hooks are available in the 6/0 "Owner", they are super sharp...Randy Edited by UPMuskyr 2/4/2007 12:30 AM

The reason the hooking percentage is so bad on a Top Prop is that the spinner globe is so large in diameter, and so close to the hook. I added 4 heavy duty split rings between the spinner and the hook and hookup percentage went up dramatically, but it was picking up weeds in the rings. I then covered the rings with some clear plastic tubing, and it works like a champ. Gamakatsu makes a 5/0 hook with a wire weedguard that is worth it's weight in gold.
