Location: Minnesota | Been watching a few of these le lure globe built by Frenchy lemay go on eBay and I am amazed at how high they go for. One guy seems to have a lot of them and puts a lot on eBay and still gets $100+ for each one. One of his is up to $150 now. Just curious if these are still made or if these are very rare lures. Look very nice but not $150 nice...

Location: WI | They're probably lures he made personally (he's now deceased). You can buy new production lelures for around $20 or so. |

Location: Iowa City, Iowa | I was told by Robert A. Slade, the author of the Fishing Tackle of Wisconsin book, that the LeLure Company went thru several iterations. He gave me the impression that identifying the lures made by Frenchy himself [minus Frenchy's signature], made while Frenchy had direct involvement in the company, or made after Frenchy was no longer involved in the company was not easy. Now we have the modern LeLure company. The adage, buyer beware, applies. If I were to purchase a lure supposedly from either of the first two iterations of the company, I would need some additional verification of origin from a seller in whom I have confidence. |

Location: Hastings, mn, 55033 | frenchy's hand made original baits are fairly easy to id if you know what your looking for. the original production lures are also easy to id as being first generation production lures. then there was a short run of creepers built after the company was sold. these are identifiable in that they are the only le lures not to use thru wire construction, instead using screw eyes.
the new production le lures all have the "le lure" name stamped on a small blade and nailed to the body. also have the new logo instead of the le lure stamp as all previous lures did. frenchy also built some baits long ago that used small silver willow leaf blades with his stamp on them, but they look nothing like the new le lure tags.
a few years back originals were going for $250+ and first gen production lures for $200 ballpark. prices have softened since then, although you still see some lures go for close to that if its something a collector really wants/needs. i think its fairly safe to say the baits you see going for $100+ arent being fished. |

| Years back I was lucky enough to purchase 6 or 7 originals with the general tackle. I sold 3 or 4 of them which all bore the marks of a mighty musky for between $125 and $175 each. I still have 3 in almost mint condition, with various color stamps. Soon may decide to sell them as antique tackle is loosing its lore for me and takes up too much of my valuable space. They are still as valuable as the $250 each I was offered 7 years ago. or so i hope. |

Some weeks ago someone has send me a globe, with the spreaderbar double hook system, signed Lelure. I also has a prop on the rearend. Could this be an original?

Could be an original, or a fisrt production run factory bait. From what you describe it sounds like what was called the "Glober".
If you post pics I can probably tell you whether it was a Frenchy handmade ot if it was a "factory" bait. |

| I also have a few custom made Le Lure's that where made to my specs when I hung out at Indian Trail Resort and owned a trailer across from Frenchy for a little while....am considering selling them. I have a couple of creepers with extended hooks and others with extended hooks.... would put pix up on site but don't know how to download them to this site......All lures have not touched water except when Frenchy tested them and still have my name tag on them from the resort. |

I fished Indian trail resort for about 20 years late in the fall. Started around 1970 I remember John Deteloff was a teenager than. I was lucky to purchase 14 of the baits when Frenchies first made the baits commercially, some never been used I still have all the boxes that they came in. I do not have any of the original. I have bunch of globes with the spreader hooks. Who knose we may have bumped out there. This sure brings back memories

| The old ones Frenchy made distinguished by the stamp are great lures for catching and collecting. The new ones are made overseas will cheap steal that rusts not even close for longevity. I have a baby black creeper boated over a hundred muskies of all sizes 49.5 is the biggest. Probably do 25 bass a night on it also. I collect them and have been buying them at blow out prices. Frenchy passed away three years ago but his originals with the stamp (not the metal tag) haven't been in production since the early 90's. I doubt you will get any more signatures out of him either. Every topwater today is designed off of Frenchys's baits. The globes will still out fish any globe 4-1 along with the surf-stir, humpers, thumpers, creepers and my favorite baby creeper.
Frenchy was a fisherman and lure maker he wouldn't have produced it if it didn't catch fish.
Some of the real high ones were pre-stamp that Frenchy gave to his nieghbor and daughter.
Most were going for 2-700 a few years ago!
Buy low sell high!
