| I am new to bait building and was wondering if anyone could help me. I am looking for some instructions on how to tie flashabou skirting properly on some coiled wire to make a bucktail. I also would like to know if you are using a whole pack per bait. Most of the baits I am building are 8-12 inches long. Thanks |

| I only make baits for myself but I make many using flashibou. The way I do it is 1) wrap lead wire around the bucktail shaft in a 1/2" long coil. 2) Place flashibou with the center of the flashibou centered over the lead wire. 3) wrap the tag end from the lead around the flashibou a number of times to secure it. 5) Cut the wire from the end of the flashibou (I like to leave the metal fasiner on the flashibou until I have secured it becouse if you make a mistake the flashibou will remain together rather than falling all over the place. 6) I like to finish it off by putting a small zip tie over the lead wire to securely fasten it. This may sound like a cheesy way to fasten flashibou to a bucktail but I am still fishing with ones I made 3-4 years ago with no problems.
I also add flashibou as a trailer on maribou bucktails and to do that I start off with the coiled wire but then 1) wrap string around the wire enough times to secure it. 2) Place about a half inch of the desired length of flashibou over the tag end of the string then carifully wrap the string around making sure the flashibou is evenly distributed then wrap tightly several times. 3) Place three overhand nots over the wraps and (leaving the tag end) add fishermans glue or epoxy over the string wraps to securely fasten them. 4) When dry snip the tag end.
I use a full package of flashibou on bucktail using the material exclusively, and I cut the full length of a package in half for use on maribou bucktails. Using string can work for both the above applications. Hope this long post is not just confusing. If needed I can attempt to post pictures of my method. Good Luck |

| I too have never tied flashabou. However, when I look at a Cowgril, I see 2 different groups of flashabou. That makes me believe 2 packs may be best on larger lures. Of course, the thickness and length of the flashabou may make a difference to whether 1 or 2 packs are best.

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I take a wire coil piece around 1/2-3/4" long and zip-tie the flashabou in place. This way you can even out the material before you really get it tight. I then tie it onto the coil basically lashing it around the zip tie. That seems to be the easiest way I've figured out. |

| That's thay way I did it today it seemed to work out fine. I was still wondering if one pack of flashabou is enough for a bait or if a guy should use another half of a package. The problem is I have no open water to pull the baits in to see how they look. Looking at the cowgirls and showgirls some seem to have more flash than others or maybe it's because some are like saltwater and some are normal flash does that sound right? Thanks again |

| Not sure about the flash, but holographic flashabou looks like it might have more flash than the standard flashabou.
You may want to do a search on flashabou. When you do, you will find another topic on flashabou indicating the size or (thickness) cut used on cowgirls is only available at the manufacturer. I believe Dick Moore was trying to get some.
I know the cut size I saw at Cabela's was a lot smaller than what is used on the cowgirls.

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I've found that by BLENDING regular fine flashabou with HOLO flash, there is more body to the bait. It puffs out more and breathes more in the water....also a great way to pick up some sunlight mixed into the standard flash color... |

| I have always made my baits with silicone skirts, but just started using flashabou. You can also use flashabou the same way you would make a silicone skirt. Open the collar with your tool & pull the whole bunch of flashabou through to the desired length. put the collar on your skirt body, small tie wrap around it, & you are done. Works well & is quicker than tying if you have the skirt collar tools to do it. |

Location: On your favorite spot | It DOES NOT MATTER what size flashabou you use. It all looks good. If you're having trouble tying it or spacing it, you're probably not using enough because it's surprisingly workable when you have a big clump.
CowboyH had a good tip - blend. Take it a step farther and tie some flash over some silicone skirting for some wicked flare.
Always keep this in mind: Do you want to make a bucktail that looks just like a CG or do you want something with a personal touch that looks a little different than what the masses are throwing? Try some different things and make it YOURS!!!!!!

| I just use a zip tye to put my flash together. I tryed tying a few but it was ugly and the zip tyes work great. I usually use one package of flash per bait. I think it flows in the water better with a little less. |
