Location: Davenport, IA | Ok, I need to get my dad a muskie rod. He doesn't fish more than 5 times a year. I have a few technique specific rods...none of which are very good for everything IMO. He doesn't throw gliders...unless they can swim in. But, maybe he'll get the hang of it and start to fish them. The rod needs to be a St. Croix or G-Loomis. It needs to throw 6" twitchbaits and mag dawgs. Is it possible? |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | For the GLoomis I would go with the 7'7" MUR14C. I have one, really like it, though it wont throw a mag dawg. A medium just fine, but for a mag dawg, you're probably getting out of the range of a rod that will also throw a small twitch bait well. Any rod CAN, just a matter of how effectiely. |

Location: Ft. Wayne, Indiana | I would second the G loomis, it throws most baits well, but might be too light for a mag dawg. If you want a mag dawg rod more than anything go for a St. Croix Avid 7'6" H, both are really nice rods though.

Is that a new rod? I have a PM80MHF, but never have heard of the one you mentioned. Thanks for the replies about the loomis's, I've never owned one so I will have to check them out. |
