Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | I have been looking into making some soft baits. This has lead to some interesting finds on the internet. Just curious if anyone knows the origin of the Bull Dawg. From my searches on how to make a soft bait I have found multiple sites that make Bull Dawg like lures. I have found some that seem to have making this lure long before the "Bull Dawg" came out as a muskie fishing lure. I was just curious if these guys just took an exsisting lure and added new marketing towards the muskie world. Not trying to start anything, just found this very interesting! If they did do this, more power to them for developing a new market for an old bait!!! Wow. Thanks, James Edited by Grunt Lures 12/22/2006 9:03 AM

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | The original Bull Dawg fish! LOL! Now if I could only get about 10,000 of those sterilized and over here in the US. I could sell a lot of those little guys in the fall!!!

Posts: 1057 Location: Medford, WI | That is amazing! James is right...sterilize some and bring them over!!! Amazing job on the original maker of the bait though...one of, if not, the hottest bait the past two years! James, I was just doing a little bit of research on how to make softbaits myself about a week ago. I have no experience making baits; as I'm in college and it's hard to find time to myself. Now it's Christmas break though and I'm off for a month; working but part time. If you find anything that would help and wouldn't mind sharing please let me know (PM) Thanks and good luck on your new endeavor. -Jake

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Pikopath-Got a bio/latin name for that sucker? I woudl wiki it but have no clue what to search for! LOL! Would love to see a video of it swimming. Would make for a neat ad for the Bull Dawg. That thing morphing into a soft bait Bull Dawg Magnum or something! I can already see it no the "Next Bite" this year! lol James

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Medford Fisher Just doing a little late R&D and found this. With the silicon you would need an exsiting bait or you woudl have to carve one out of wood to get the initial mold. Materials in bulk is another question for me. I knwo where to get all the materials I need but the formulation is another task. Can't be to hard to find... James See: Silicone Spread http://www.culinart.net/silicone.html

Posts: 501 Location: Norway | Hi Sorry for the late reply, been away for a while, xmass holidays you know. That fish is called "skolest" in Norwegian, Coryphaenoides rupestris in latin and according to fishbase its called Roundnose Grenadier in english. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=332 As you can see on other images, it doesnt look to much like a BD, but the image in my first post, its almost identical The picture was taken, at a pier, and they suspect that the deepsea creature has been caught in a trawl and just tossed overboard, they normally dont swim that shallow. Posts: 501 Location: Norway | Btw: Instead of carving "prototypes" out of wood, you can use fimo clay (or similar clay that doesnt dry out, before you toast it in the oven) and sculpt it. Michael
