Hi Guys,

I guess I didn't post the musky-like activity I had on day 2. We were on Kentuck, drifting across a large deep weed bed, and I was using a chartruese-perch Squirrely Jake, tossing it shallower to the left. I got a slow lazy follow from a good mid-40s fish, and he kept looking at my figure8 but wasn't moving. When it left I casted out past it and retrieved faster, got the follow and went into a quicker figure8, this time the fish followed around and around (6 or 7 times around!), and eventually did hit the bait.

It was awesome cuz I haven't had much luck on figure8s before. So I waited for it to turn away, but before I had a safe chance to set the hooks the bait came loose.

I wouldn't call it the best follow ever, but back-to-back casts, with likely the same fish, and understanding the ability to get the fish to react differently when I brought it up the 2nd time, I was quite pleased despite the skunk in the trunk on the way home.

I am mostly receovered from the lack of sleep, and packing already to head next weekend for 3 days on Witch Bay, lake of the woods.

Anybody fished up there? (Witch Bay Lodge) sounds like we're doing the fancy-pants full meal plan and everything.

Later,
papa joe

Wow, what a trip to Northern Wisconsin with Mauser. My right index finger took a hook so I won't write much (work calls, too!) but I need to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the wonderful family at MuskieFirst for a great fishing trip. The hospitality and generosity was, frankly, overwhelming, made it kinda hard to go home!

We stayed with Tomcat Thirsday night and got to meet his wife and kid. Great bunch of people and he loaned us a couple Phantoms, one of which raised a good fish on Kentuck. Got to see the new and improved Steve and some of the most awesome fish photos one can imagine. So good to see Stevie again and finally meet Tom. Then, on to Pewaukee with EsoxLazer and Tuffy1. We moved a couple fish and found that muskie lures really don't bankshot off of flagpoles very well! Thanks to Eric's folks for putting us up - and putting up with us.

On to Rhinelander. We noticed so many Harleys on the way up and finally found out there was a big biker rally in Tomahawk. Steered clear of that, two old married guys could get into real trouble there!. We borrowed the Patriot for the afternoon and moved a couple with no hookups. Accomodations at the Hideout were wonderful. Sunday, Keith took us out to three different lakes and worked our butts off to get fish. I think we saw 12 that day, including one that vaulted over my surface bait the first cast I made with it. Mauser got a dink and I had several good shots at fish who seemed to enjoy looking but not eating. Dang cold front anyway. A delicious dinner of fried potatoes and 'muskie steaks' (Steve, how does Sue get those big fillets so tender?) awaited our arrival. Ok OK, it was salmon with cheese melted and was the best meal I'd had in ages.

Gotta go now, more later about Sunday with Tony Grant. m

Common thing, locking on to an assumption and not looking carefully enough at the clues as a result. I have an immnese amount of fun coming up with the clues.

Gotta search ALL posts, and try an abbreviated version, much like searching something on Google.

Sheeeesh! is right, Mr. W.

Here I was out fishing Cave Run all day yesterday with TOP H2O, and my posts were all over here as the clue! Amazing.

Funny thing, as Jerome and I were in the Scotts Creek parking lot, a dude who just launched his boat shouted to me at my truck, Hey are you from Ohio? Mikie?

It was Craig from New Jersey, said he'd been reading my posts here. I hope he nailed one yesterday cuz we sucked. Great day to be on the water, though. Top H is a top notch guy.

And while we're thanking folks, Thanks again, Steve, Sue, and Keith for a memorable trip to your back yard.

For those of you who don't know, Mauser won a scavenger hunt contest on Muskie First and the prize was a couple days at the Hideout, Keith's guide service of a day, and Sue's wonderful cookin. Very clever to start another hunt with the results from a previous one, Mr. Riddler!

Oh, and Muskieman, if you had to search thru my posts to find this winner, I'll send you my sympathy. I guess i'm up to 2564, according to the counter. Dang, I need a life, m

Hey Mikie!
I spent 7 hours on the water yesterday and raised a few small fish (maybe mid-twenties). Drop me a line the next time you come down. You can fish with me anytime.
