Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> burts

I got a weighetd burt that tends to hang to one side thus diving to one side. When I shake the lure, the beads move to the center and it dives straight again. Has anybody experienced this too?

Any tips on fishing the weighted burt would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Check to see if any water is getting in. Every squirly burt I've had has leaked and created issues.

I think its sopposed to go to one side, its different and I don't really like it, but I guess it catches fish.

Divani, they all seem to work a bit different. I have a bunch and no two are the same. Some go one way, some another, have one that goes side to side, some i can snake on a retrieve. They do catch fish and you just have to find the way that one likes to be worked.

p.s., I wonder how well a wood burt would do. Hmmm

nope, it doesn't take in water (no airbubbles releasing)

schuler: it isn't supposed to because they tell you to shave some of the lip of when it swims to one side to make it run true.

Todd, a mate of mine tried to turn out a wooden burt and it worked after a while. he didn't understand how to weight jerkbaits (different from crankbaits or surface lures) so he just went and drilled 4 holes in the bait. Of course that thing had no action left. But now it works great. More of a suick type action though.

Stick with the Burt running the way it is. I have two Burt thats are identical color, but the one that runs "good" to me hasn't seen any action. The one that I thought ran like a pile of *#@! I had to actually retire because the muskies and pike put it out of commission. In fact that lure put two muskies in the boat 10 min. apart. What looks good to us doesn't neccesarily look good to the fish.

Cisco you are correct,I have a burt that works like that also. The bait catches fish but looks like a badly tuned lure. There is ways to change the motion of the bait. Rod angle to the water, pull length and pull speed all affect the glide of this bait. Work the bait the way the fish want it.
