| Fishing season is winding down in most parts of muskie country, so it's time to kickstart the off-season with a bit of trivia fun. the good news first: Professional Edge is sponsoring this contest! Keith Terlinden has been building an incredible reputation for custom fishing rods through quality products, attention to detail, and meeting the customer's needs. His satisfied clients include some of the best fishermen in the world: Jack Burns, Dan Craven, Mike Hulbert, Troy Zuelske, and Rod Kimm - who featured them in an article for In-Fisherman magazine. Many people on Muskiefirst, myself included, have had great experiences with the rods they've gotten from Professional Edge. Professional Edge's main focus is fishing rods, and you can have your custom muskie stick built on a variety of blanks, including Diamondback, G Loomis, Lamiglas, and St. Croix (Premier, Avid, or even the new blue Tournament series blanks!). Keith makes custom rods for all soft-water applications as well as ice-fishing rods. he also sells Cortland Endurance rods and Bronzeback superline. Keith believes in personally talking to every client before starting to work on their order. he wants to make sure you're ordering the right stick for your needs, and that he understands exactly how you want the finished product to look. if you're interested in getting yourself a Christmas present, want to do some window-shopping, or just want to talk fishing, you can contact Keith by phone at (612) 802-4629, or by email at [email protected] and coming very soon Professional Edge will have a new website hosted by OutdoorsFirst! We're pleased to pair up with Keith to offer you some education about rods and rod building, a little entertainment (hopefully), and a chance at these great prizes... 1st place: 8'0" heavy action rod custom built on Diamondback blank with harloy guides, choice of wrap color. 150 yard spool of 80lb Cortland Bronzeback superline. 2nd place: 7'6" heavy action Cortland Endurance rod with lifetime warranty 150 yard spool of 80lb Cortland Bronzeback superline Prizes will be available for pickup at the Chicago muskie show or directly from Keith in the Twin Cities. If you can't pick them up, winner is responsible for paying shipping charges. So what do you have to do to win??? With my apologies to Monty Python: Answer me these questions three, ere the other side ye see... ten sir! right...ten! The top 10 people with the most right answers move on to round 2... those of you who remember past contests might recall that i'm downright mean at times. i like trick questions and precise answers do matter to me! 1. most high quality rod cork comes from what country? 2. what peninsula is that country located on? 3. in Steve Worrall's younger days, "pool cue" rods dominated the market - very stiff, powerful rods. what was the main limiting factor for good hook-sets that these stiff rods helped to overcome? 4. what modern innovation has allowed for more flexible rods? 5. what determines whether or not a manufacturer can advertise their rod as "high modulus"? 6. if you want to be able to cast more easily, what aspects of your rod and lure need to match? 7. what is the most common reason for rods breaking while they're being used? 8. there are four main types/material for line guides available on muskie rods. what are they? 9. what is the difference between a rod's power and it's action? 10. what is the "spine" of a rod? why is it important when placing line guides? 11. (tie-breaker) describe why you deserve to move on over everyone else who only got 5 answers right. email your answers to me at: [email protected] no later than midnight on Wednesday. good luck! Posts: 2893 Location: Yahara River Chain | 1.most high quality rod cork comes from what country? Down south here we calls them floats, not corks 2. what peninsula is that country located on? I don’t know what country developed peninsula, but some guys with STDs are mighty grateful! 3. in Steve Worrall's younger days, "pool cue" rods dominated the market - very stiff, powerful rods. what was the main limiting factor for good hook-sets that these stiff rods helped to overcome? In sworrall younger days that would be willow stick that he used for fishing. He is older than dirt! 4. what modern innovation has allowed for more flexible rods? Big muskies, the bigger the more they flex. 5. what determines whether or not a manufacturer can advertise their rod as "high modulus"? When you get hit in the nads, you get a high modulus. 6. if you want to be able to cast more easily, what aspects of your rod and lure need to match? It cant be too heavy to launch that whole outfit into the lake when you miss the big one. 7. what is the most common reason for rods breaking while they're being used? Being used 8. there are four main types/material for line guides available on muskie rods. what are they? Straight, crooked to the left, crooked to the right, and on the bottom. 9. what is the difference between a rod's power and it's action? I don’t know, but let me tell you about rod torque, when you wake up with a woody and have to pee, you push down to aim and your feet come off the floor – that’s rod torque! 10. what is the "spine" of a rod? why is it important when placing line guides? So it doesn’t whimp out when you put a pounder on the end. 11. (tie-breaker) describe why you deserve to move on over everyone else who only got 5 answers right. Does not apply, I gets them all rite | ||

for number 3 is it asking what was bad about those rods or good? your wording it confusing. it's asking what was the "limiting factor" that required super stiff rods. i've got no opinion on if it's good or bad, it just was.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Gerald, that is funny. Great contest, for a great stick, anyone who has not tried a Professional Edge rod, get with Keith this winter and see the sticks he is building, they are second to none. Also got to try the Fat Cork, it is so much easier on the hands, I had my first stick built with it, and I will not buy another casting stick without it. Good luck Troyz

Posts: 401 | Hello all. Here is a brief description of the items that are being given away for this contest. If you have any questions about these you sure can call or email me. Endurance rods come with a lifetime warranty and are priced at $89.95. The Cortland Endurance musky rod is a higher modulus 100% graphite rod has been developed to be stronger then ever and still be very sensitive. They come in 6-3 Jerkbait, 6-6 all purpose, 7-0 bucktail and the NEW 7-6 heavy. Great price. Cortland Masterbraid is one of the newer braids on the market today. Masterbraid is developed by a process that bonds the color and finish into the fibers of the braid eliminating fading or flaking of the color and stiffening agent. One of the best features of this line is the amount of weaves per inch and the hydrophobic coating that slices through the water and comes back dry. This is the best line I have ever used and I am not alone in saying that. This line comes in 150, 300, 600 and 1200 yard spools in 10, 15, 20, 30, 50, 80, 130 and 200 lb test. KT Professional Edge custom built rod on Diamondback. As far as Diamondback, I think they are in a class all of their own. This blank offers a light feel but is loaded with power. I handcraft all the customs sticks sold by KT Professional Edge one at a time. My standard musky rod is built using Fuji Harloy guides and some of the best cork available in the market today not to mention it is FAT. Hope all is well. Keith

Location: Athens, Ohio | Troy, down south here it's pronounced "fox pass". As in, " I wuz gonna say somethin funny to the pretty girl, but I let the fox pass." I say give Gerard the outfit, he's earned it! I'm sure it took more effort for his answers than for any of the 'rite' ones. m
