Can anyone remember when this feature became available from Minn Kota?? I have a chance to get one, new, a PD, but the Maximizer wasn't mentioned. Thanks.

That feature, pulse frequency modulation if I remember correctly, is a given these days.

Yes it is. But, at one point it was not. I have a chance for a 55 PD but the person did not list the Maximizer in its' features, while others they did. Is it a 'must have' item? Does it really save on the juice like they advertise? I will be using a 12v, 27 series next year before deciding whether to add another battery. I'm lucky if i get out once a week unless I am on vacation. I did look on their site but found nothing pertaining to the Maximizer system. I am waiting an a reply from the person to find out the year this MK was made. I assume these are old stock that have never sold unless I hear otherwise. Thanks again for your help.

If it's a PD then it has the feature, I believe.

I'm looking at the manual for my 55PD, which is dated 11-98. It lists "Maximizer" as one of it's features, and later on describes it as "...Maximizer's solid state electronics create pulse width modulation to provide longer running time and extended battery life."

So safe to say an 8-year old 55PD would have the Maximizer feature available.

Thanks. Here is what the rep said when I called them directly. Any PD with 'variable speed' has the Maximizer in it. Even an older model which if i remember correctly, goes back to the late 80's. Any motor with the 5 speed forward/ 3 reverse, does not have it.
