| Iwould like to get others opinions on cradles or slings.I've never used one,but if I fell out of a plane Iwould want a net because it would hang up on something on the way down![8)] |

| Nothing bets a good Beckman net. The way nets are built now days and it does not matter who makes them, they are now made to safely handle muskies.
A cradle is a two man operation, been there done that.[:blackeye:] |

| I will have to tell you that when I first started musky fishing, I went out and bought a stidham cradle because I thought that was the best way to try to release a fish. I try it on alot of different size fish and my feeling on it is that the fish can get out of one much to easy and the fish a very hard to control. I had cradled a 42" fish for a friend, I had the hooks out of the fish and went to pick up the cradle to take a quick photo and the musky swam out the end of the cradle and slam onto the deck of the boat and jumped back into the water, Fortunatly the fish swam away just fine, But needless to say my friend wasn't to happy with not getting a photo of his nice fat 42" fish that he just caught and I prematurly released(he got over it)
After that incident I purshased a large beckman, Yaeh sometimes it can get in the way, But figure this, One day your going to be fishing alone and your personal best fish is going to be on the hook and you have a cradle , How in the heck do you manage that one.
Just food for thought,Jeff <>< |

| The main thing that I do not like about a cradle is that your partner in pulling the fish right at you with a lure hanging out of the fish's mouth. Also, when you make the turn with the rod to get the fish to go into the cradle you change directions and now you are pulling the fish into the cradle and also you are pulling the bait from the fish's mouth. |

| I fish alone alot of the time so a cradle is out of the question for me. I also don't like the way you have to tire the fish out with a cradle. Seems like it would be more stressful to the fish. I have a friend who won't use anything but a cradle and he always has to work at the release. He never has a fish just blow out of his hands. They always swim away slowly. I feel this is because they're so tired. When he fishes with me and I hook a fish, he keeps casting cause as he puts it,"it's going to be at least 2 to 3 minutes till he's ready to net, so I might as well keep fishing." This is one of the reasons why I don't fish with him very often. So needless to say, I don't think to highly of cradles. |
