Im defenitly not a newbie to st. clair, as ive fished it my whole life...for smallies. Ive done a fair share of casting and jigging for skis this summer in the detroit river as well, but im looking to get out on St. Clair for some trolling and maybe even land a few! Does anyone have any advice for a trolling newbie on the big lake? I was thinking of running some pikies ive been having luck with and also a couple of 9" grannys. My question is were to troll at! I was thinking of hitting the edge of the channels, but i could use any location and speed advice any of you may have.

I was there for a few days the last week of Sept. We caught fish in 12' to 13' of water out in front of the Thames and Ruscom Rivers biggest was 49" in our boat. Other boat in our camp got a 50". Same water. Trolling speed was 4.2mph.....you may want to slow down a little more now though try 3.2mph to 3.5mph...If the winds blow hard out of the north you can still fish around Pesche Island and Sturgeon hole on the Canadian side of the Detroit .Some big fish are caught in that area every year late into the fall............good luck!

trik pony. heres the deal. try trolling cranks from pike creek west to the cans at the sturgeon hole. it holds fish. most guys troll bigger baits. 9 inch. try nils invincibles and woodie thumpers. slower speeds at 2.4 to 3mph. if the lakes ruff try the detroit river on the can side. you will need a licence, and its 1 rod.. hope this helps and please cpr.
