In your guys opinion. What triggers a fish to strike more. The size, the color, or the action of the bait?

Action first
Size Second
Color last

I think speed is a huge factor too, but I think that's considered part of action?

Does anyone have a cat?

I have noticed that playing with a cat with a string toy is much like getting a fish to bite.

They don't really care about color, size can sometimes be an issue, but the action (which can also be speed) really gets them going.

Therefore...

Action first (speed)
Size Second
Color last

Does that sound a little tacky???

My opinion, it's the mood of the fish more than any of the traits of the lure.
If a fish wants to eat, I believe that visual stimulation triggers their first feeding response.
Then in their little pea brain, the decide whether to eat or not.
If it looks like something that they have eaten before, or some times even not, they go on the offensive.
It's never the same thing.
What makes a fish run down a bucktail burning at Mach 1? Is speed the trigger? He's burning a lot of energy, so it better be worth it.
Why do followers follow but not eat? Curiosity or just not in the mood to eat?
And why do big fish come from out of nowhere, hovering off a breakline, just to engulf a slow-moving glider that looks like a Cisco that has wandered out dangerously into open water? They use little energy to feed on an easy meal. I believe that is all visual, and having a glider that moves lazily and looks like the prey in the area helps pull the trigger.
If I had to choose from the 3, I would say...
Action- definitely. But add speed to that.
Size- who knows? They eat crappie jigs and other lures not intended for them
Color- never last, and not just because I paint. But I believe that color can turn them on or turn them off.
The trigger is their mood.
Just my thought.
