October is a HUGE month in the Professional Walleye Fishing world.
The Wal Mart FLW Walleye Tour, In Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail, and Master's Walleye Circuit all have Championships scheduled over the next 10 days, with over 1 Million Dollars total payout. The FLW is in it's final Co Angler day in Pierre, South Dakota, with eliminations yesterday cutting the field from 50 to 10 finalists. One of those 10 finalists will take a check home for $150,000.00
The MWC Championship is also underway on the Mississippi River.
FLW and PWT are Pro/Am formats, MWC is Team. Professional Walley Angling began in the very early 80's with the Manion Walleye Circuit, and has evolved to one of the fastest growing fishing event venues today. These events can draw 3000 or more spectaters to the final day. FLW and PWT Television reaches millions of homes, and some episodes are broadcast to our troops overseas. Live webcast weigh ins are now the rage, the FLW is streaming the weigh-ins this week from Pierre, and the PWT will be streaming the weigh ins next week from Bismarck, North Dakota.
Many of the advancements in fishing equipment, electronics, outboards, and boats we use in the pursuit of Muskies came directly from the Competitive Walleye Angling world.
Even if you have never wet a line for 'Eyes, it's pretty impressive stuff and quite a bit of fun to watch; come on, admit it, some times you DO watch In Fish or The Next Bite or FLW television, and maybe even some days in the dead of winter a Jimmy Houston Bass show or two..... Perhaps as the sport continues to grow the Muskie Competitive Angling world will someday offer Events and Circuits of this caliber! It would be fun to cover a PMTT or MMT or all new circuit that pays out $650,000 in cash for the Championship alone.
