Location: South Portsmouth, KY		What is the best 8ft bucktail rod out there for under $100 bucks. I have been looking at the shimano compre and the fig rig rod. Anyone have any experence with the 8 foot pete mania rod? it says the action is xh but i would think that that would be a little bit to stiff for bucktails. Any other good ones out there? Thanks for any info!!

If your looking for a rod for around that price and like the Compre, get it. Great rod. I have an 8' and a 7'6" and love them. I do like the Croix's a little better, but when I can get them for 50 bucks I can't pass them up The only complaint I have is they don't fit well in a rod holder if you want to troll to the next spot. I use the 8'xh for bulldawgs and large bucktails and the 7'6" for medium sized bucktails.

I know a lot of people here are fig rig fans and are on the pro staff but the fact is they use to break, and break often. I actually had one break on me, for no reason, and have heared of others doing the same from multiple people... and others have no problems. I hear the new rods are built much better so don't rule them out. They are very, very light rods.

I've got an 8' Tica (Heavy), which I highly recommend. Casts a mile, if you want it to. Gives a great hook set on a long cast, yet flexes enough to help when when a fish strikes on a figure 8. Rod slides into handle to fit into a 6.5' rod locker.

it's not under the price point you mentioned, but just for anyone else looking at rods:
give the Shimano Calcutta rods a long hard look. it's from their Inshore line, not their muskie rod line.
they were recommended to me, so i bought an 8' Hvy Fast for tossing Double-X bucktails and it is a first class stick. i have seen the light and will be back for more this off-season.
light, loads nicely, but with plenty of backbone to tell a fish where you want it to go.
pricey, but worth every penny.

Location: Black Creek, WI		For just a few extra bucks you can get an 8' St. Criox Premier MH. This stick has become my primary bucktail rod. Loads nicely, good long handle, and is just a great work-horse rod for flingin' hair.

Awesome stick for sure.

Light weight, strong as can be, and very affordable.

You will be very happy with it.

Location: Madison, WI		I've been using an 8 ft allstar, it's a great rod... BUT.. ..For some reason it doesn't seat my Abu 6500c3. I have to use cardboard and electrical tape just to stabalize the reel.. i'm not sure if that's true for all abu's and all-stars or just mine.

Location: Contrarian Island		your All Star should seat that reel just fine...I have a few of them most with Abu's that seat fine...they don't make All Stars anymore so he will have a hard time finding one...the 8'6" was a better bucktail rod than the 8 anyway...if I had to buy another 8'6" I'd get the Tica...the guys that have them seem to love them...very light rods as well...

Location: Madison, WI		There's a good amount of wobble, not sure what's going on. I called all-star to see if they could help out. They told me it's not there problem if a reel doesn't seat correctly. So I live with what i have.

they have a 8'6", It is the best rod ive used for bucktails/topwater.

Location: Maple Grove, MN		I have an 8' H Compre and its a good rod, but not a real light rod because its a composite rod. Sure is a nice trolling rod though and one can launch big baits with it.

I have a Gander Mountain Pro Select MH IM8 and it is an awesome bucktail/spinner bait rod. I use it about 90% of the time. It is light and strong and I can throw spinner baits up to about 3.5 oz with it all day. I need a rod like that because I have two bad shoulders that cause me much problems.

There is a new Gander Mountain 8' rod just out called the Tournament Pro. I don't have one yet, but a buddy of mine does and he loves it. He had no problem with a 49 inch fatty that I netted for him and it casts like a dream too. It is a bit stouter than the Pro Select and should be able to handle the larger baits better.

In my opinion, the Gander rods are comparable to rods costing twice as much. For just $80, there is no rod in a similar price range anywhere near as nice as the Pro Select or Tournament Series Gander Rods. I'd strongly recommend taking a look at them.
