Posts: 2024 | Does anyone have opinions/info on the best waders out there? I'm looking for 3.5 mm neoprene with lug/rubber sole boots. Are Stearns any good? Thanks!

I have a pair of LaCrosse and a pair of the Gander Guide series. Both are good waders, they both keep me warm when the ducks are flying. The part I prefer about the laCrosse waders is the fact they have buckles that attach the straps together, the Guide series has velcro. Rocky also makes a nice pair of waders, but for the over all money/quality it is hard to beat the guide series.

Posts: 201 Location: Stevens Point | I use guide series, but they have buckles, they were purchased about a year and a half ago, I don't know if this is a new feature, or if the velcro is new. But they are a great option and very affordable.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I like my Cabelas waders. They are sized perfect(I am 6'2", 225) which was always a problem with the off brands for me. I run the 5mm guide weight stocking foot and use a different boot for different substrate, but usually go with the rubber lug sole(felt on slippery rock). I like the fit of the boot better on long days, then the boot fit models. I switched to them about 7 years ago, and just got my second pair, and I use them an awful lot for fishing. Good price too. I used to fly fish 5 days a weekand blew through several pairs of waders every year. If you have the $, Simms Goretex w/ 3 mil stocking foot are really nice and pack well. For myself, I have really thick legs and find neoprene waders always leak at the seams and are way too hot even in icy water if you move around much. I have gone to the old canvas hodgemans - cheap and easy to repair for all fishing uses and a cheap pair of 5 mil (slow leak) neoprenes for duck hunnting while standing still, in water.

Posts: 2024 | Thanks, fellas. Anyone else with more input, that would be great. Unfortunately, I don't have easy access to a Gander anywhere near here, and from the looks of their website you can't order online either (that's a shame, I bet they'd do fairly well by opening up an online catalog/ordering system).

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Definatly go with a pair of guide series. Make the trip to gander, it will be worth it. I bet you will even find other stuff you need (well I'm sure we dont really NEED, more stuff, but want!) Mike

Posts: 2024 | My wetsuit this summer was 6.5 mm, 5 is pretty thick. I decided to go with Simms L2 Goretex/neoprene and a Cabela's boot. Thanks, fellas!
