The Holiday weekend was very busy on Rhinelander area waters and roads. I've not seen this much traffic for years. We had high skies and very light winds all 3 days, so we fished dark water and caught a couple. Slamr got a mid 40's class fish, I got a mid 30's, Stacy and Tomyv had big fish on and did a R without the c and the p and Tomyv got a small muskie. We moved a few every day in the mid 40" class, and had a couple pigs going. All in all, I had a great time beating up the slop with a Violent Strike and trying to avoid chopped up masses of weeds on the surface with a Weagle. Nikki moved a really nice fish on Moen on a Weagle which just plain ran out of room. We were right up in the slop in a couple feet, and doing any sort of figure eight was out of the question. Stacy had a pig eat a Top Raider, and wasn't entirely sure yet what to do. Next time, Stac, that fish will be yours!

Fished IN Sunday and Monday with friends from my club and it was pretty slow. Pounded the Webster water for two days in the midst of heavy boat traffic and Sunday caught a 37 and 46.

Got out for a few hours on Sunday morning and put on a bass clinic with a XX. LOL missed a mid 40" fish on the same bait and had to call it a morning. Then in the afternoon, hit the big pond with my pops and popped some nice kings. (see salmon first for pictures.) Monday had to do it again cause it was so fun. Took a bit to get warmed up, but then went 2 for 6 (yeah that sucks, but it's a work in progress) with a couple of more nice kings in the bag. man is that fun!!! Those things just scream off line. Heading up to Mani Thursday for the weekend with my dad.

Went out Monday evening for about 4 1/2 hours. Had a smaller fish grab the tail of my Bassnatcher and let go at the wrong time...narrowly missed my head. I WILL make that fish pay someday!
I always look forward to Labor Day weekend (well, the end of it actually). When I put in (about 4:00 pm), there were over 200 vehicle/trailer rigs in the lot; when I left, I was one of 3. From here on out, the lake is virtually mine. Most people out here shift into hunting mode and put the fishing gear away...poor souls. I regret the day when they figure out that they could do both!

i got out Monday with on Pelican Lake with Norm Wild.
we moved a half-dozen fish on bucktails and topwater, working off the rocks and breaklines.

i popped this 35" tiger on a Mojo XX. Norm literally called this fish, saying, "we should catch a tiger on this spot." BAM. i think he even scared himself a little bit with that one.

i should have about a 42" tiger to go with it from the same spot...but i blew it. fish came speeding in hot on the lure, and when i started the figure-8 my hand slipped off the crank, letting the bait stop for a second. i tried to recover and the fish perked back up but wasn't convinced and took off. me: "did you see what i just did?" Norm: "i promise i won't tell anyone." lol, that's why fishing's fun.

if you're looking to get out on the "Dead Sea" i highly suggest you give Norm a call. the amount of knowledge he's got about how the structure sets up and what the fish are doing is amazing. plus you get to ride in his really fast Tuffy 1890!
