Just thought I would share this experience to blow off a little steam.

While at Eagle lake this past week with my family, I was blown away by the actions of three gentlemen we unfortunately had to come across. My brother and I were revisiting a rock wall that he had raised an active big fish on. I was working the boat (hoping that he would catch the big fish as it would have been his biggest) up the rock wall slowly when these three guys came around the point in their maroon ranger. At this point they are about 75 yards from us. I'm thinking that they are going to continue working down the rock wall until they get too close and then move. I was dead wrong. They keep coming at us until they are making casts off the front of my boat towards the rock wall so my brother is unable to cast towards it. Eventually, they are one foot from my boat and I'm not joking. For some reason they are the ones that are pissed off. We were on the spot first, it's not like we motored in front of them and started fishing the spot. Then the guy in the back of the boat takes his bucktail dips it in the lake and flicks it so water goes all over my brothers back. These guys were probably in their 30's and my 13 year old brother couldn't even believe their actions. What a way to show a kid how muskie fisherman are supposed to act. I hope one of the guys is a member of muskiefirst and gets to read this. You should feel ashamed but from your actions I'm assuming you won't even care.

Just venting,
Grant

Anyone else with an experience like this?

That sucks...we've all been there....the one comment I have made on occasion if someone runs straight at me and casts there lures right to the side of my boat is "Did you want to come fish in my boat or what?"

Or ask them where their ettiquette was..back at the dock?

For some reason , I have some sort of experience like that ( not quite as close ) almost every time we go out , part of the deal , it's everybody's right to be on the water . Although some of them go way too far and it does suck , I just try ( key word is TRY ) to go wy own way and not do that to others . I agree 100% that it really sucks when there is kids on the boat , it can turn ugly and that is not the way they should see their fishing experiences be . They should be having fun and catching fish , not watching a couple of adults yell at eachother , but unfotunayely for the good ones out there it happens !!

Sorry you had to experience that Grant, some people have no shame

Sadly we all have these stories

I guess some people are more important than others and some people own the water more than others

While returning to our dock after a day's fishing, a chap is sitting there and asks me "where you goin ?" I reply, as removing my .45-70 from the boat , " To MY dock."
He offers me a beer, I decline, and he leaves shortly thereafter.
That's how you keep the conversation polite.

I have run into similar circumstances over the years too. Here in Oregon we anchor for salmon in "Hog Lines"...boats will anchor just feet from one another in a line that starts near shorline and extends out perpendicular to the current. If it's done correctly a whole bunch of folks can fish in a small area. In some popular fishing spots there might be 20 hoglines in a row. Well you can imagine what kind of a mess this can create when you have some hot-headed folks around. Ninety-nine percent of the guys are courteous, patient, and polite but there's always one that will ruin it for everyone. Some poor guy will come along that hasn't anchored in a hogline before and get too close to someone and then the words start flying! I go fishing to have fun, to get away from the stress I have at work and elsewhere. If fishing gets stressful, leave, it's not worth it.

Can anyone say paintball gun...or anyone remember the article in muskyhunter a few years back about fishing accidents accompanied by x-rays of lures lodged in peoples skulls...flashes of those x-rays run through my mind when I read something like this...I am surprised you didn't give them a "warning shot" Grant...I would have been steaming mad as I am sure you were...can anyone say "cheapest/heaviest lure in my box off their head"..People have done this to Grant and I on some of our home waters too...freaking idiots anyway...just venting as well...

You said a red Ranger.......... I been on Eagle on a rockie spot with big fish spotted and he showed up there too.
I was'nt so polite. If I said who it was , and I'm only guessing it's the same red Ranger. You would know the name, maybe not the face.
I would only guess it was some were around Colemans or Gilligans.
Let me know if I'm right. I told him if he ever cut me off again I would swim over and pull his plug. LOL and other colorfull things

Eagle is big enough that some day you don't even see another boat for hours.
MAKES NO SENCE.............................You did the right thing with your brother there

Reality Check:
Muskie fishing is a sport ANYONE may enjoy. As a result, they do. What you have described is no different than a ball game, day in the Park, kids soccer game, etc.

'People' like Muskie anglers in general are generous, kind, courteous, and friendly. It's the 'PERSON' who isn't that causes threads like this one, arguments at the Mall, etc.

It's the human condition, and shouldn't surprise anyone. Reacting in kind perpetuates the behavior, by the way. Me? I just get out of the way, mutter to myself, and outfish the fool no matter the spot I had to give up. <:>>><
