Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Jason Hamernick and Bill Buechner put on a clinic this weekend at the Minnesota Muskie trail evenit on Mille Lacs. Team 55 put 6 fish in the net to run away with the win by a 35 point lead. The Team's largest fish was a 53.5, pictured below ( Bill Buechner). They added a 42, 43.5, 40.5, 43.5, and a 40.5 to the 53.5" hog to accumulate 86.5 points and take the win. Second Place team Chris Jensen and Luke Ronnestrand put three in the net; a 51.5, 47.5, and a 40.5 to accumulate enough points to edge the third place team of Jeff Peterson and Jake Grant by a point and a half. MMT Executive Director Paul Hartman reported that small bucktails were hot today, burned as fast as possible after the cold front had passed. 37 fish were caught, out of which 10 were over 50". Watch tonight and tomorrow for updates and the MMT Mille Lacs image gallery. Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | 1st and second looks like it went as planned, 2 teams that know the lake well, great job Jason and Luke. There were not 88 teams that fished the event, I see my parnter and me on the board and we did not fisht the event. Pretty impressive results from the first 2 events of the MMT. Troyz

I love that measuring board !! I have not fished any tourney's --was that something belonging to a judge boat ? Regardless of who it belongs to where do I get one ?? Takes alot (100%) of the BS'in about mystery inches on fish when it's photo'ed that way --I love it ---Should be the "industry standard" of all big time muskie fisherman. Super photos guys --way to go !!! ManitouDan

I'll second ManitouDan's statement. Where can I buy one? It's a Dunwright product, but on their website their product doesn't match the pictures from the tournament. Does anyone know anything?

Dave T., guess again, you MIGHT gain maybe .5 of an inch at best from split/spread tail to pinched tail. that is the way the DNR measures them and the way most, if not all tourneys do their measuring. congrats to the winners Jason and Bill. Jason must be part musky!

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Actually, sometimes a tail pinch takes a bit away. The nose of the fish has to pin to the bump board, and the tail remain in one place as a result. If the tail has a pronounced V, pinching it too much can cost you. ( Think about it!) The rules allow the best measure the team can get and the Team has to live with the story the camera tells, pretty simple. The team bumps and measures the fish and shoots the picture, which is VERY good for the fish allowing immediate release.

Dave--you know I did'nt notice the tail pinch, I was so impressed with the clearly marked board I did'nt pay attention to the "grip", great fish regardless of any hold. So where can we get these --Someone help us out... ManitouDan

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Dunright. And the teams measure the fish, anyway they can get the best mark with the muskie's nose tight to the board. Who gives a rat's fanny about where the tail is, some were longer with NO tail pinch. Hartman does it right, and gets the fish back in the pond alive and well. That's all there is to say about that...

Hammernick is a very good fisherman. But don't sell Bill Buechner short. He put all 3 50's in the boat the last 2 tournaments I believe. Bill is one heck of a good stick! Together they are a very good team on any body of water.

Amazing fish, especially for a tournament. What do you think this lake is capable of? The Bump Boards are made by us, Dunwright Tackle, Paul adds the color strips to make it easier to see in the photo for the tournament. They also float for easy rinsing, and they have a 30 inch ruler on top when they are folded shut. Not that any of us need to measure anything that short, but you never know. They are available through Paul Hartman and all the usual retail locations. Call me with any questions, 763 263 5793 ask for Dan Vogel
