Lucky me! My wife wants to get me a guide for my birthday. I want to try Tonka but do not know who to hire. I have my own boat and fishing quite often on Forest and Sugar so I would like to get my moneys worth. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Posts: 2378 | not an "official" guide, but from what I know Bob Turgeon is one of the better sticks on that lake. In past years, Treats has rocked that pond as well, but he doesnt really guide anymore, and it sounds like he is having a tough year out there so he probably wouldnt want to take your money anyway. Personally, if my wife told me to hire a guide I would go somewhere with a little more potential. Nothing wrong with Tonka...bunch of big fish in there, but... Edited by BALDY 8/15/2006 1:50 PM

I'd take you out for gas money and a six pack if it fits my schedual. If your bent on getting a guide personally I'd head to Mille Lacs or possibly Miltona.

I was also thinking about heading up to Mille Lacs. Maybe that would be a better spot to land a biggun! Any ideas there?

He's a great guy to be in the boat with and knows the lake better then all but a handfull of people I know. I haven't had much of a chance to fish out there this year and it hasn't been really going until now anyway. I think I've been out there 2x since Fathers Day. I did get a rip last night trolling with the family on the toon and with this cooler weather Tonka is getting ready to snap IMOP. If you want a big heavy I'd go to Mille Lac. Check out Luke Ronnestrand, he's one of the top sticks in the state and he's having a great year out there. I think he's got something like 8 50"s out of the Mille Lac this year alone!
