I bought a couple of used depthraiders on Ebay whose hook eyes will slide up and down (parallel to the bait)...besides probably taking on water...will the strength and viability of the bait be compromised? It also feels and sounds like the sound chamber holding the rattles has broken loose as well...Are these baits junk? Thanks,
matt

What I'm asking is: Is it OK to use these baits?...use a little silicone sealant and go or retire them? Since the hook eyes are loose, will they break or pull free with a fish on? I don't know how they are put together inside...Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks,
matt

I'd say they were junk, look at the attached pic and you can see how the hook hangers are secured, any loosness and I wouldn't trust them at all.

Am I the only one who thinks it's hillarious that someone actually x-rayed a bunch of musky lures?

Not that it didn't satisfy some curiousity I've had about how the various crankbaits are put together, but come on -- can you see explaining that to your boss?

Try putting a little bit of super glue around those hook eyelets should hold them in there for a long time.

If a hook eye moves on a Depth Raider and many similar lures it does not mean anything at all. The Stainless Steel Figure 8 Hangers wrap around a solid plastic post inside the lure. The only reason why the hook hangers are fixed when you first use them is the paint that adheres to the hanger. The hanger area can even take in a little water which will never see the inside of the lure again - as this area is sealed also.

Take some super glue to the hanger if it makes you nervous but otherwise there is no loss in hanging strength - actually the opposite happens as the fish has a harder time gaining leverage on the lure.

Great Hunting

Chico, What bait is that in your last X-Ray, the one with all the lead in it?
