I drew one up (pardon the poor work with MS Paint.). You will get the basic idea. If you have some woodworking skills you could probably cut the rack and the grooves to drop the rod handles and tips into. Just hang each piece, probably 6' apart, and you are all set. I would probably hang them with hooks instead of flush mounting the wood so that you are able to swing one end away to easily remove your gear. If you are looking for an easier way without the woodworking, you could just buy the screw-in rubber coated hooks and hang them from the rafters. If my drawing doesnt give the gist, PM me and Ill try to describe it in better detail. Good luck with the project. Attachments ---------------- FishingRack.bmp (186KB - 103 downloads)

Posts: 71 | My rack is similar to the one given, to get the slots I drilled 28-1.5" holes down the centerline of a peice of 4" stock then ripped it in half. Mine doesn't swing away. When I need one I just slide it foward, drop the butt down and slide it out. I mounted it directly over the rod locker in the boat to make it easy to load the boat for walleye's, Salmon, bass, Muskie you get the Idea. When the garage door is up the door goes underneath it. Posts: 392 Location: KY | I have wanted to do this for a while. I have a rack to hold the rods vertically. It works fine but it is taking up too much floor space and my kids (1.5 & 3 yrs) are starting to play with the rods. I was afraid that the horizontal position would hurt the rods over long periods of time, high heat, etc. Do you leave the reels on your rods when stored this way? If the boards are 6' apart don’t the rods sag in the middle? I have everything from 5 to 8 footers. Bruce

Location: Northern Wisconsin | id say get rid of all your other rods and keep just the musky rods.;-) i have a homemade one where i can store up to eight rods. its just a simple design. it has a base with 8 drilled out holes for the butts to go in and a dowel rod about 4 feet goes up to another piece of wood with semi circles drilled along the outside. there are hooks on the top piece so you can slide over the rods so they stay up. ill try to get pics.

Posts: 336 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | Bruce, I didnt notice any of the rods sagging in the rack that I saw. I dont have one of these racks...just trying to describe the one at Smokeys the best I can. Im sure that you could hang another piece of wood in the middle of the rack to prevent this if you find it happening. The rods sit in the holder so that the reel is on the inside of the rack and the brace that supports the top end of the rods is actually supporting the middle of the rod moreso than the tip. Maybe 5' between the supports would be better? I suppose it would take some experimenting to make sure that the rack can support the majority of your rods without sagging.

Cheap set-up and works fine. Sand the holes smooth to eliminate any wear on your handles. A good way to hang rods. Netman
