Has anyone thought of using a bathroom scale to weigh yourself and fish to get a weight of your fish. My brother has one in his boat for this but he has never used it, i thought it was a good idea. What do you think.

bathroom scales are notoriously poor and can't be trusted on dry land. Check it out when you get on, it moves a lot when you do, what do you suppose happens when the boat and the fish are both moving.

when a bathroom scale is on water, the scale reverts to a subtractional dial and moves counterclockwise north of the equator, so all of your math will have to be considered. if the needle is red instead of black, it works quite well .... must be something in the red ink that has maybe a different density causing the needle to move appropriately clockwise .... so, you're best to use a modern digital type to reduce confusion ... #*^@, it's only 1:34pm. and i've got 2 hours before being on the water ... way too much to think about!

is it THAT important to know the exact weight of a fish? (with the possible exception of WR-class fish)

the formula(s) will get you in the ballpark and mean less of the deadly time-out-of-water involved in adding one more step to the release process as you hold the fish while standing on a scale.

It would be a real easy way to get a fairly accurate weight of a fish. I do it all the time in the ER with kids who won't stand on the scale, I have the parents stand with them and then without.

I actually did this a couple weeks ago, only it was with my cat. The scale read my weight, then I grabbed the cat and got on again. The weight was accurate, as I took the cat to the vet days later and got about the same reading. I guess I'll take it with me next time out.

It used to be peole said "I got a 50"", then it became "I got a 50"x23". Now I guess we can expect to see 50x23x32lbs on a bathroom scale?
