Posts: 1168 | Glad to hear someone else out there uses "true right handed reels!!" Ha! Don't know what to tell you on this one but it probably is something pretty simple like grease or oil buildup somewhere. Reason I am responding is that Chuck is in Manitowoc right now for a Salmon outing so he might not respond right away. I don't think the guy has slept more than 2 hours in the past 3 days. Spent yesterday out on the big pond with him and A-ROZ. What a good time. Chuck did mention that there were very few issues with the records but those that he has heard of were mainly related to the Grease or over-oiling problems. I'll simply defer to him though, but wanted to mention he was doing this Salmon deal and might not respond immediately. Take care, -Bob

Posts: 22 Location: Albuquerque | I have the exact same reel and right out of the box it didn't seem as smooth as I was expecting. I took it apart (no small parts or surprises) and everything was way overloaded with grease. After I cleaned it up a bit and substitued some of the grease for a little oil, the reel worked perfectly.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Chuck Nelson, thanks for replying. I took it apart tonight and it had some water drops in it (spend a day on LOTW fishig in the rain), but other than that looks fine. No small parts - thank goodness. ![]() It seems to work better, but at times it will skip and just won't engage. It feels like the drag is backed off all the way and the crank just turns freely. I'm not sure if I can get to Dorn's (if I am able I will likely go to D&S as I know Gene has one) before I get to Canada as I have limited mobility due to my blindness. Looking at the reel it seems to me that Abu would use a "shinier" surface for the clutch arm to slide back & forth on. It seems to drag somewhat. I know on my older reels that they used stainless (or chrome?) for the clutch arm to ride on. Any thughts on this? Thanks guys, I know I could count on you for some help.
